Getting there

[edit]

@Philg88:Finally getting to the last, and fun, part: Jean Abraham Grill (resident in Canton, buddy to Puankhequa and opium smuggler). In the first part of the Draft:Grill (family)#Swedish East India Company he is shipwrecked in the South China Sea and heading for a province that I simply cannot identify: "Catsi" (Swedish 18th century spelling). Might be Catshi, Katsi, Cashi, Kashi...?? Do you have any idea where it might be? Best, w.carter-Talk 20:53, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@W.carter: Hmm ... possibly the Chinese province of Guangxi but bear in mind that the South China Sea contains lots of islands and extends as far as the Philippines and Malaysia. Sorry I can't be more insightful but it doesn't ring any bells.  Philg88 talk 05:54, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Philg88:Sorry, I should have been more specific: They were shipwrecked on the Pratas Islands and headed for the nearest port. Might that be Guangxi? w.carter-Talk 07:05, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@W.carter: Bit too far east for Guangxi I'm afraid. Could have been somewhere on the China coast, in Taiwan or the Philippines. I honestly have no clue. Sorry!  Philg88 talk 07:17, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Philg88:Many thanks for the effort anyway. :) We'll just chalk it up as unknown for now. Cheers, w.carter-Talk 07:24, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

All sections done

[edit]

Hello again Master Yoda, this is what you stray comment some weeks ago resulted in. Might be a clear case of "Be careful what you ask for..." :) Anyway all the entangled stories are now sorted out, and all the names are in the right places. I have some thoughts about it and some questions before I release the article into the wild.

  • It is not like the other pages with "(family)" that I have seen, but these guys are so interlaced with each others that I think this is the only way to make all the connections clear to the reader. All the factories and estates are also part of the family history in a way that is a bit unusual. Comments?
  • I have toyed with the idea of separating the section about Jean Abraham to a separate article, since there is so much about him and put a "main" on the page just like with some of the estates. But his biography is so much better understood when the other Grills are nearby for references. Thoughts?
  • In most biographies the persons are addressed with their last name, but since they all have the same name, I opted for their first names. I have kept the numbers in some places that might otherwise be confusing. In some of the sources they are simply called "G:3", G:6", and so on, resulting in a headache. Is this way ok?
  • I got lucky with the houses since Yakikaki seems interested in writing articles about some of them. So there may be more "mains" to put at those in time. :)

Not sure if you still have time to help out on other users articles the way you did Before The Mop, or if you focus have moved on to other things, :) so I don't expect you to do any full ce or anything, but if you could just cast an experienced eye on it, when/if you have the time, and see if something horrible stands out, it would really be appreciated. Hopefully I have learned some new things since my last article, so maybe it's not too messy. Cheers, w.carter-Talk 19:07, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You make it sound like I have contracted some horrible disease since acquiring a mop . I've done some editing on what is an excellent article thanks to you. There are a few requests for clarification dotted about, which should be self-explanatory—please shout if they're not. As far as Jean Abraham goes he certainly has enough coverage to warrant his own {{main}} article. I don't think that would detract from readers' understanding of the "family" article, providing a decent single paragraph summary is substituted.  Philg88 talk 06:08, 26 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
LOL! :) No offence to your "Faster than a speeding bullet"-MO, but with so much more to do now... And I seriously doubt the mop came with some kind of "time-stretching-thingamagadget" (And if it did, I could really start thinking about becoming an admin just to get hold of one!). Thanks a lot! Some new questions have surfaced, but I'll be back with those later. Much obliged, w.carter-Talk 08:16, 26 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
