[edit]Doesn't this song have exactly the same tune as the older song "Act Naturally"? I'm afraid if no one else has noticed this, then it is "original research" on my part--KEVP Jan 14 07
- I always thought it sounded like a parody of Merle Haggard's "If We Make It Through December". "Now I don't mean to hate December...But as for me and Grandpa, we believe." Still, if you mean Ringo's song Act Naturally, yes it shares a bit in common with that too. Asat (talk) 23:46, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
Perhaps you have had too much eggnog to - I don't see any similarity in either the melody or even in the chord progression. Well, there is a line or two in each song that consists of mostly the same repeated note, but there are lots of songs with this. 69.29.207.109 (talk) 06:18, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Irish Rovers recording
[edit]I have a tape version of the album "Christmas Comedy Classics," which opens with Grandma, and the (P) and (c) date given on the case is 1985, so I've changed the date in the article accordingly. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kouban (talk • contribs) 19:43, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
- The song was written by Randy Brooks and recorded by Elmo and Patsy in 1979. It was re-recorded by the Irish Rovers in 1983, per their website and per The Irish Rovers Wikipedia page.
- SOUND RECORDING REGISTRATION: 1979-11-15 Title: Grandma got run over by a reindeer / Randy Brooks ;[performed by] Elmo 'n' Patsy.
- Date of Creation: 1979 Date of Publication:1979-10-27 — Preceding unsigned comment added by TEEBIRDIE (talk • contribs) 01:28, 26 December 2010 (UTC)
Re: Randy Brooks the composer
[edit]A little informational tidbit. Randy Brooks was at the time, and currently still is, an employee of American Airlines. Randy lives in the Dallas/Fort Worth Texas area.

Removed incorrect statement(s) in lede
[edit] I removed those parts of the lede that incorrectly indicate that Grandma is alive at the end of the song. I more or less reverted the lede to the way it was as of August 25, 2015.
I listened to several audio recordings of the song and examined several printouts of the complete lyrics; and nowhere does the song say or imply that Grandma is alive as of the end of the song, let alone that she comes down the chimney wearing Santa's hat.
(I know that Elmo & Patsy later did a music video for the song and that that video does visually depict Grandma coming down the chimney. But that is only in the video; it is not in the song, and the article is specifically about the song.)
If anyone disagrees with this edit, please feel free to discuss it here. Thank you.

Another parody/pastiche
[edit]Honestly, some of the songs mentioned in the "parody" section of the article are actually more like pastiches. And here's another: many years ago, probably sometime in the Nineties, I heard one, likely by a morning radio show, called "Grandma got Abducted by a Martian". The lyrics I remember go, "Grandma got abducted by a martian/waiting to see Independence Day/You may say there's no such thing as martians/just like the fellers at the CIA."
I know this is OR at this point, but if someone could find documentation of it, that might be an interesting, if minor, addition to the article. --Cromwellt|talk|contribs 16:02, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
