Is the article encyclopedic?
[edit]Hello, I have two problems with this article:
- there's no source on the article's name: why "grand coalition"?
- it is not written in a historical perspective: why the PdL is not mentioned?
At the end of the day, do we really need this article? --Checco (talk) 11:26, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- I was going to ask the same, to be honest, as IMO it needs folding into the article about the Letta Cabinet. it is too premature to create a separate article on the 'grand coalition' formation in Italy generally, as this current government may be the only government of its type, and may be short-lived.--Autospark (talk) 14:05, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- Things are getting worse as the term "grand coalition", which is very seldom used in Italy, is now applied also to the Renzi Cabinet, which is not a grand coalition government by any definition. In fact there are no sources supporting the article's name and the rest of the article is basically a chronology of events. The Letta Cabinet was originally described as governo di larghe intese ("government of broad agreements"), but lost this character when the PdL/FI left revoked its support. My argument is that this article is basically original research and its relevant information (provided there is any) can be easily moved to the aforementioned articles on cabinets. For now I'm going to add some tags. --Checco (talk) 09:10, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
Proposed merger into Letta Cabinet
[edit]@RJFF, Jay942942, 1990'sguy, Javert2113, talk, Autospark, Alssa1, Eccekevin, Angelo.romano, Panam2014, Wololoo, Desyman, Batternut, Mr. Guye and everyone concened: Consistently with what I did, per consensus, with Government of Change and Conte Cabinet, I propose the merger of this article into Letta Cabinet.
As Angelo.romano observed at Talk:Conte Cabinet, "a coalition-related article would open doors for articles regarding every single coalition happening in Italy, which would be a giant Pandora's box". Of course, articles on coalitions are useful mainly when a coalition has formed more governments, but this is not the case—at least, for now. As RJFF observed, "as of now, the Conte Cabinet is the only case of an M5S-Lega coalition (correct me if I am wrong), so a separate article is redundant. We may re-create an article about the coalition if and when the two parties continue their coalition under a different prime minister or if they start to coalise on the regional level or run as an electoral alliance. But none of these cases is imminent so far". The same can be said about Letta Cabinet.
Side note: the government was never referred to as "grand coalition". --Checco (talk) 08:14, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- I agree 100%. Also, especially given the fact some of the parties who were involved in this 'grand coalition' are no longer existing, so this is just an implausible thing to happen. --Angelo (talk) 23:42, 21 November 2018 (UTC)
- Consensus takes time, but two months are enough, I think. Angelo.romano, would you please do the merger? --Checco (talk) 09:21, 28 December 2018 (UTC)
- @User:Angelo.romano: I am asking to you because you are very good at these things. Please... --Checco (talk) 08:05, 18 January 2019 (UTC)
- I did the merger by myself. Hope I did a good job. Improvements are welcome. --Checco (talk) 22:02, 28 January 2019 (UTC)
- I think this was the right decision. The article page Grand coalition adequately deals with the concept so there's no need for anything specific to Italy.--Jay942942 (talk) 23:59, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
