[edit]Gordon Jackson was elected to the Scottish Parliament in 1999 for the Glasgow Govan seat and returned again in 2003.
But his focus remains on his work as a lawyer where he earns about £240,000 in legal aid fees on top of his MSP's salary of £50,300.
Between the 2003 election and July 2006 he had only submitted 8 written questions and tabled 12 parliamentary motions. By comparison his Labour colleague representing Glasgow Kelvin had in the same period submitted 316 questions and tabled 154 motions. But it is his infrequent speaking record and intermittent attendance at Committees, he is Deputy Convenor of the Parliament's Subordinate Legislation Committee, which have given rise to most criticism.
His habit of rushing from court to the 1700 GMT vote at Holyrood earned him the nickname Crackerjack, after the children's TV programme which began "It's Friday, it's five to five..."
It remains to be seen if Labour will allow him to stand again in 2007.

Gordon Jackson (politician) → Gordon Jackson (lawyer) – He is known as a lawyer, not as a politician. He was an MSP from 1999 to 2007 but has been a lawyer since 1979 and since 2006 has been Dean of the Faculty of Advocates. jamacfarlane (talk) 00:41, 29 March 2020 (UTC)
- Support Gordon Jackson (advocate). For articles about British lawyers we try to specify the exact type of lawyer (e.g. barrister, solicitor, advocate). -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:14, 1 April 2020 (UTC)
- Happy with that. jamacfarlane (talk) 00:39, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
