[edit]Mr. Gondwe (B. 1936)comes from Kayiwonanga Village, Mzimba, Malawi. He is married to Gretchen Gondwe, and has 3 children Tiwongwe Gondwe, Fikapo Gondwe and Edward Gondwe.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics.He was voted as Africa’s Finance Minister of the Year 2008 at the African Banker Awards in Washington D.C. because of his work in turning around the economy of Malawi.He has contributed in making pivotal decisions hthat have affected the economic policies towards African states through out the African continent.
He returned to Malawi in 2004 to assist in influencing Malawis economy. His 2004 appointment as Minister of Finance in Malawi by President Bingu Wa Mutharika who is also an economist, the economy grew by 6%. Marking Malawi is currently one of the fastest growing economies in the world in 2008.Inflation fell drastically in Malawi from 30% in 2005 to 6% by 2008.
Currently a Fellow of the Institute of Bankers, his career profile includes:
