[edit]Yom, The statement about Gondar having been the second largest city in the world with the population of 60,000 is clearly incorrect. If it says so in the book, then the book must be wrong. What about Paris, Beijing, Istanbul, London, Amsterdam, Naples, Rome, Moscow? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Introscop (talk • contribs) 23:10, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
Aragon, King of Gonder
[edit]I'm surprised to see no mention of the historical fact that at one point Aragon tried to become king of Gonder. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.188.228.243 (talk) 23:19, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
Fasilides castle was not founded by the Portugese (as per the subtitle to the picture), this is factually inaccurate and a eurocentric distortion. Fasilides banished the Portugese from his kingdom before he built the castle complex at Gondar. There was portugese influence to the construction technique but this is not the same thing — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.55.76.19 (talk) 20:34, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

Removing German weather data
[edit]I am removing this source, because it applies for the entire province of Gondar/Begemder prior to 1991, and not the city. I found it odd because the average temperatures a little too high.
https://www.dwd.de/DWD/klima/beratung/ak/ak_633310_kt.pdf
I replaced it with Climate-data.org which has extensive data for cities. https://en.climate-data.org/africa/ethiopia/amhara/gonder-1183/

Gondar and Gonder are both romanized versions
[edit]@The Supermind: Gonder and Gondar are obviously both romanized versions as sources indicate. The sources are in the article as well, so kindly revert your edit. Thanks Dawit S Gondaria (talk) 14:31, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Dawit S Gondaria: Which source indicate "Gonder"? The lead paragraph states "(Amharic: ጎንደር, Gonder or Gondär; formerly ጐንደር, Gʷandar or Gʷender)", which "Gondar" is mainstream title than "Gonder", the latter is in Amharic sense. The Supermind (talk) 14:36, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
- @The Supermind: Both Gondar & Gonder are romanized, they are not in Amharic. There is not one standard of romanizing Amharic, Gonder is romanized through BGN/PCGN system aka North American/UK romanization. Gondar romanization is older, European, from Ethiopica Encyclopedia. Both are correct and many sources also use Gonder. There's hardly a difference in pronuanction. Dawit S Gondaria (talk) 14:46, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Dawit S Gondaria: OK good, but you must know that the basic title which people commonly referred to it is to be first than traditional usage of title. If you search Google, an overwhelming webs spot on "Gondar", that is a common usage. The Supermind (talk) 15:07, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
- @The Supermind: Many reliable sources write in the BGN/PCGN system including (not suprised) by the British encyclopedia https://www.britannica.com/place/Gonder hard to count all the sources and compare, but if editors search for sources, they can use both terms Gondar and Gonder, that is good to know, since BGN/PCGN is mostly used by Brtish and North-American sources who contribute a lot in English. Images in Infobox
[edit]There has been some disagreement about how many and which images should be in the infobox. Due to the different views I am starting this topic so that it can be discussed and then developed into a RfC if required. Gusfriend (talk) 12:30, 27 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Dawit S Gondaria: Again restored the disproportionate collage without good reason (explaining too complicated and irrelevant toward the topic). Again I would like to ask himself why do he prefer this image, this is an encyclopedia to build article into large collaboratively, nor to revenge each other's edits, but this user did not want editor to modify the photomontage in the first place, like ownership of the article. Please read WP:OWN first before accusing inevitably without good cause and irrelevant reason. The Supermind (talk) 14:21, 27 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Gusfriend: The user bluntly rejected your request to discuss here. See his comment afterwards in ANI. Again revitalizing his baseless accusations and justify his ownership to prevent any edits. The Supermind (talk) 11:41, 28 May 2022 (UTC)
- I was just wondering what image(s) do you want in the Infobox and why? Gusfriend (talk) 11:44, 28 May 2022 (UTC)
- @The Supermind: You already chose one avenue (ANI), after being reverted once. You are the one who bypassed talkpage and regular content dispute mechanisms. You are the one who made accusations of edit warring but provided no diffs, after being asked for evidence on ANI. This is not a rejection towards @Gusfriend:, this is a refusal to go avenue hopping with a WP:UNCIVIL editor not worthy of my time. Dawit S Gondaria (talk) 13:40, 28 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Gusfriend: I want to restore this version of image (you can see it in visual preview), and compare to the current version of montage, see the symmetrical equivalence of the image collection. The Supermind (talk) 14:00, 28 May 2022 (UTC)
