[edit]Isn't it Exodus 7:26? --Ph. Immel 19:07, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
"Down" to Egypt
[edit]The reason for this isn't that Egypt is preceived as being "below" other countries as the article claims, but rather its location south of the Land of Israel (or Canaan) and south of Midian, where Moses was staying before returning to Egypt. See also Genesis 12:10 and Deuteronomy 26:5, both mentioning going down to Egypt, as in traveling south of Canaan. 77.126.145.131 (talk) 18:12, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
- In the context of American history, could this be a coded song about the underground railroad? "Down" is often used in connection with "south," and Moses was a codename used by Harriet Tubman when she was a spy during the Civil War. 68.41.83.40 (talk) 22:36, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
"Bible" text
[edit]Exodus was a book in the Torah / Tanakh / Hebrew Bible long before Christianity marginalized it into the "Old Testament"; for accuracy & non-bias, its origins in Jewish culture & religion should be accentuated prior to its relation to Christianity. Additionally, when it is then related to Christianity, some mention might be made of slavery's relation to that religion, & tangentially might even include the passages from Paul's Letter to the Ephesians on what constitutes a "good slave." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rtelkin (talk • contribs) 08:44, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
- It wasn't Christians who rendered Moses' Testament the "Old Testament". It was the prophet Jeremiah who prophecied:
- "The days are coming,” declares the Lord,
- "when I will make a new covenant
- with the people of Israel
- and with the people of Judah.
- "It will not be like the covenant
- I made with their ancestors
- when I took them by the hand
- to lead them out of Egypt,
- because they broke my covenant,
- though I was a husband to[d] them,[e]”
- declares the Lord.
- This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel
- after that time,” declares the Lord.
- I will put my law in their minds
- and write it on their hearts.
- I will be their God,
- and they will be my people.
- "No longer will they teach their neighbor,
- or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’
- because they will all know me,
- from the least of them to the greatest,"
- declares the Lord.
- "For I will forgive their wickedness
- and will remember their sins no more.”
Rtelkin, why did you provide such a vivid picture of Christians marginalizing the Old Testament or Covenant, when, historically, these verses show the Holy Prophet of God, Jeremiah, prophesied the Old Covenant would be succeeded by a new one six centuries before? It's almost as if you don't know about the Bible, and yet are willing to use it to put Christians in the wrong at any cost, including the cost of the Old Testament possibly contradicting you in places where there are gaps in your knowledge?
Do you really think God is pleased by you defending Him with empty claims? Or at least by you hazarding to make a dramatic gesture at the risk of presenting yourself as one with pretensions to holiness while acting to contradict His Holy Scripture? 2600:1700:C690:3640:D0D8:7CA2:D72F:D933 (talk) 20:45, 11 May 2019 (UTC)

Who is Tony Vittia?
[edit]The music section references a jazz singer 'Tony Vittia', whose name when typed into google only yields this exact article... is Tony Vitti intended instead, and if so, does this album exist?--Droopop (talk) 00:05, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
