Move?

[edit]

Move this to City of Glasgow Council, as per its bold title? The current page name invites confusion with Glasgow. Alai 03:21, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm. Remember, councils are a group of people, whereas this article is about the area that the group of people is in charge of. Maybe geographical information to Glasgow, and political stuff to move to Glasgow City Council ? How urbanised is the area? Morwen - Talk 20:01, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I note (1) "Politics of the City of Glasgow", used as a main article title under "Politics" in "Glasgow", is piped to "City of Glasgow", while "Glasgow City" (which seems to be now the official name of the city and council area) is a redirect to "Glasgow", (2) the Politics of the City of Glasgow name seems more closely to represent what "City of Glasgow" was created to represent, and (3) I am aware of various articles using "City of Glasgow" as a link with the implication that it should lead to an article about the city area, not just its politics. Seems to me the content of "City of Glasgow" should be somewhere else, and "City of Glasgow" should be, like "Glasgow City", a redirect to "Glasgow". Laurel Bush 10:54, 30 August 2006 (UTC).[reply]

I have now rewritten the article with, I feel, a clearer focus, and I intend now to move it to "Politics of the Glasgow City council area". Laurel Bush 18:18, 5 September 2006 (UTC).[reply]

And maybe I should move it again? To "Politics of Glasgow"? Laurel Bush 09:36, 16 September 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Move again? would it not be best to move this to Glasgow City Council as originally suggested as this is the case with Belfast and Belfast City Council --Barry O'Brien entretien 19:55, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

City of Glasgow District Council

[edit]

I shall amend this article shortly in that the official incarnation of the local authority from 1975 - 1996 was 'City of Glasgow District Council'. I have several letters headed City of Glasgow District Council. I have also seen rent cards with this description from as late as 1989. More importantly on signs such as 'Keep off the Grass' the abbreviation GDC was used in this period ie. Glasgow District Council. Either the then 'district council' never updated stationery or else the 'Glasgow City Council' usage was never officially adopted.

My understanding is that it is only after the 1996 reforms that you can say that that Glasgow had a City Council in the sense of 'Glasgow City Council'.

This link from the House of Lords website from a 1997 Court Case confirms my point http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/ld199798/ldjudgmt/jd971030/klein01.htm —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.42.207.246 (talk) 02:01, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

MSPs

[edit]

I believe the Scottish Parliament electoral region elects a total of 17 MSPs (10 first past the post and 7 additional). But the info box currently lists 12 MSPs. Laurel Bush 11:00, 19 November 2005 (UTC).[reply]

Ward names

[edit]

Looks at present like the city has seven unnamed wards, 73 to 79. Laurel Bush 12:41, 28 November 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Problem looks sorted now. Cheers. Laurel Bush 17:29, 28 November 2006 (UTC).[reply]

New wards

[edit]

Does anybody have a list of the new wards, and preferable a map too? The first election using the new wards will take place in a month's time, so it's very problematic if information about them cannot be found on Wikipedia. --Twid 15:20, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Found this. --Twid 15:50, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Glasgow city council logo.jpg

[edit]

Image:Glasgow city council logo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

No Overall Control

[edit]

I tried to change the politics of Glasgow page to indicate that Glasgow is now under No Overall Control after the defections and resignations that happened today but even though I edited it still says Labour control. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.14.236.123 (talk) 21:50, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Election 2012

[edit]

Hi everyone, Looking at the election section it needs to be redone but would it be an idea to set up an election page as what happens for other local authority elections (e.g. Maidstone elections Maidstone_local_elections)? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Madscotinengland (talkcontribs) 09:38, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
