- This is a contested technical request (permalink) Wbm1058 (talk) 10:30, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
- There are many "giant markets", in the sense of "very big markets". Anthony Appleyard (talk) 06:59, 17 March 2014 (UTC)
- But there are no Giant market, Giant markets, Giant market (disambiguation) or Giant markets (disambiguation) pages, and in any case, the proposal is Giant Markets. No matter what, 'Giant Food Markets of Broome County, New York' is very clearly not the WP:COMMONNAME. 180.183.5.97 (talk) 09:46, 17 March 2014 (UTC)
- Support per nom, but include a {{distinguish}} hatnote to the dab Giant Food, which lists two better-known supermarket chains named Giant. I don't think either of them are ever referred to as "Giant Markets," but a reader who knows them only as "Giant" could plausibly try that as a search term. We can't help that there are companies with similar names, but we can include hatnotes to minimize confusion. --BDD (talk) 22:01, 24 March 2014 (UTC)
- Suggest {{For-text|other supermarket chains named Giant|[[Giant Food (disambiguation)]]}}183.89.6.191 (talk) 08:47, 25 March 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, that would do fine. --BDD (talk) 16:09, 25 March 2014 (UTC)
- Suggest {{For-text|other supermarket chains named Giant|[[Giant Food (disambiguation)]]}}183.89.6.191 (talk) 08:47, 25 March 2014 (UTC)
- Moved by me, totally ignorant of the RM. Nyttend (talk) 00:38, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
- 22:40, 25 March 2014 Nyttend (Nyttend moved page Giant Food Markets of Broome County, New York to Giant Food Markets: Simply shortening title. Not following a naming convention, and length otherwise not needed
- Now back at Giant Food Markets of Broome County, New York pending discussion. It has been agreed in other move discussions that letter case difference such as 'Giant Market' versus 'Giant market' is not enough disambiguation, and there are many giant markets. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 05:41, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
- 05:32, 26 March 2014 Anthony Appleyard moved page Giant Food Markets to Giant Food Markets of Broome County, New York over redirect: Requested at WP:RM as uncontroversial (permalink)
- But in this case, not enough disambiguation from what, exactly?
- And regardless, wouldn't the proposed hatnote handle this?
- Does Giant Hypermarket not comply with WP:TITLE? How about Fast Car? 183.89.6.191 (talk) 08:16, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
- Support per nom. If giant market were in common usage, we would have a redirect to supermarket or hypermarket, or a disambiguation page by now. Wbm1058 (talk) 10:19, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
- Move to Giant Markets (Broome County, New York)? How relevant is all this, since the firm has not existed since August 2009? Anthony Appleyard (talk) 08:12, 23 May 2014 (UTC)
- You have a good point there. I'm not concerned about lowercase giant market, which could also mean big-box store. But I am a bit uncomfortable with giving primary topic for such a generic name to a defunct name that has been bought out and changed. I can go along with that, along with redirecting Giant Markets and Giant Food Markets to Giant Food (Markets). Wbm1058 (talk) 13:32, 23 May 2014 (UTC)
