Re: Changes and comments by 14:50, 23 January 2006 Taco325i (→Notable Alumni - if you don't have a wikipedia article, you ain't notable).
- As I mentioned in my pseudo-revert, I think Warren Brown is notable. He's had heavy press coverage (even outside of DC) and has his own show on the Food Network. If Rachel Ray is notable, Warren ought to be. As for the logic that that you need to have a wikipedia article before you can be considered a notable alumni, I think that's backward. He's deserving of a wikipedia entry - I'm just not in the position to write one - right now. Maybe in a few days. My only request is that we give it a chance to grow a little bit. --69.143.135.123 17:19, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah I guess. But you didn't really have a case earlier when it was linked to a completely different person. I am perfectly OK with having this guy if it's linked properly. And hey, this guy is no Rachel Ray. Rachel Ray is hot, and she has her own wiki article. Also, I feel that having this guy seems like we are stretching for recognition with minor celebrities, like lower-tiered schools would do. GW Law has to have more notable alumni than this 'cakelove' guy, right? Taco325i 18:04, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
- Hotness aside, I appreciate your understanding. We have a whole bunch of alumni who are famous for their legal abilities - though we can't start to compete with the HLS notable alumni group. I think it's interesting to see that Warren went to law school and then became a famous pastry chef. I know he may be a minor celebrity, but clearly the same could be said for almost any other judge or department secretary. Remember, were NPOV here. Not trying to claim greatness, simply reporting the interesting and notable. --128.164.134.86 23:14, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
There's a bunch of federal district judges and bankruptcy court and tax court judges. should we include them? Taco325i 00:58, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
Message board spam
Posters on an internet message board added content claiming that there was some sort of widespread outcry about lockers at GW. Their citations, to their own message board, reflected nothing of the sort. It looks like two or three people created a message board thread and now are trying to glamorize it by making dubious additions to the wikipedia page.
Other posts on the message board appear to demonstrate that those posters intend to attack GW, not provide objective information. One such post discusses changing the wikipedia page and is entitled "GW WIKIPEDIA PWN3D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"[1]SharkAttack 00:00, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- It does appear true that they've requested "wheelie bags" and noted a "significant increase" in students from the Student Bar Association website [2]. That said, can anyone verify how large of an increase has taken place apart from "significant"?
- The official SBA site does indicate that the school has 770 incoming students, over 200 more than in previous years, and proposes that students use wheelie bags instead of lockers. [[3]]"The J.D. first-year class of 537 students (415 full-time day division, 122 part-time evening division) was selected from 11,250 applicants from more than 700 colleges and universities."[[4]] This sounds "significant" to me.
I mean, even if this is true, it's a pretty dumb thing to put in an encyclopedia article. -Taco325i 13:25, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
The spammers made another appearance, this time with even more dubious claims. They also added George Washington to the list of prominent alumni and vandalized the talk page, erasing the list of prominent GW people who are featured in their own wiki articles and replacing it with made-up names. It's pretty pathetic that they have nothing better to do. We should keep an eye on this page, as it may continue to come under attack.SharkAttack 22:02, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
Date disparity
If the school was founded in 1825, how did it enroll its first class in 1865 as the article claims? Those numbers are very suspicious.SharkAttack 04:37, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
It spent the intervening years closed, apparently, see http://www.law.gwu.edu/About/A+Brief+History.htm
Highest ranked?
I've heard that the Elliott School of International Affairs is always highly ranked? That article says it's ranked 7th nationally. --AW 21:25, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah that's true, but it's a different source. When we talk about rankings, we usually mean US News & World Report Rankings. I don't think it has international programs ranked. Taco325i 22:13, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
