Taggart's Essay
[edit]Though the author acknowledges the controversy of Taggart's essay, on which much of the information here concerning the Israel trip from 1975 is based, from the text it appears to develop an argument that is mostly Taggart's and perhaps too theoretical on which to base biographical argument. I suggest that the author re-think this argument, perhaps removing the source material from the main text, further highlighting its theoretical nature. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 64.252.79.14 (talk • contribs).
Fair use rationale for File:Oppen new collected.jpg
[edit]File:Oppen new collected.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

bitter years
[edit]Why is it so awful for a communist to live in a poor country, ruled by a "revolutionary party"? And is there any proof for FBI surveilance?--Radh (talk) 18:34, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
[edit]The portrait of George is mine. It was taken in December 1980. Mary asked me to take a few photos of them for Paideuma magazine. They were doing an issue on George. George and Mary came to our house in Berkeley and I took a few pictures of them in our back yard, but they weren't very good. Next we went to the Caffe Espresso on Hearst Ave near the University (now long gone). We sat on the outdoor patio and I managed to get this image while George was talking and unaware of the camera. This image and some of the backyard images did appear in Paideuma. Later, I had some prints made, framed one and gave it to Mary. Later, when George passed and his memorial was being planned by the S.F. Poetry Center, the print was removed from the frame and duplicated for use on his memorial brochure. Apparently it was never returned to the frame, and it was on the frame that my name and other information appeared. Years later a book was published of George's letters by the Univ of Penn press, with my portrait on the front cover (reversed, however), and identified as "photographer unknown". Obviously I was a bit taken aback that no one would have remembered who took that picture, and informed the publisher, but it was too late. More recently I had a large print made and donated it and the digital rights to the photo to the San Francisco Poetry Center for use as part of the annual George Oppen Lecture series. Still, I retain the copyrights and the original negative. However, all I ask is that I be properly credited in any use of the image.
