1800–1856

Charles Gibbon and Ainsworth Rand Spofford's The Library of Choice Literature gives Cunningham's dates as 1800–1856 (1881, 1882, 1893, 1895). Gibbon's earlier books that this was based on, The Casquet of Literature (1873–1874), didn't originally give the dates of the authors, but they did so by their 1882 reprints, which repeated the same dates for Cunningham. --Yodin^T 14:35, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Rev. George Godfrey Cunningham, and William Cunningham (theologian)

He may have been related to William Cunningham (theologian) (1805–1861), son of Charles Cunningham a merchant and his wife Helen Cunningham of Hamilton, Lanarkshire. William's grandfather died in 1814, and their farmhouse at Drafane passed to his son Andrew. On Andrew's death it passed to William's uncle(?) Rev. George Cunningham, minister of Duns. He sold the farmhouse, and William's family moved to Duns, where William attended the school.[1] William went to study at the University of Edinburgh, where he befriended John Brown Patterson (1804–1835), who contributed a poem ("Love Triumphant") to George Godfrey Cunningham's Foreign Tales and Traditions (1829) --Yodin^T 11:47, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
