Reference to him as a 'Sir'
[edit]I have deleted all reference to him as Sir George Brooke because there is no evidence from biographical sources like the DNB and Venn's list of Cambridge alumni that he was ever knighted - if evidence is found he was, then it can be reinstated. I note he was in Holy Orders which would have surely have precluded knighthood being conferred by the sovereign. Ironically 'Sir' used to be a courtesy title given to priests - eg Sir John Schorne of the Northampton Boot legend was called Sir in the poem about him and it is a prefix often seen in mediaeval records of church incumbents, but that usage surely died out by the Reformation. I have applied the same to mentions of him in other wikipedia articles.Cloptonson (talk) 07:11, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
