some additional information
- [2]
- "During his lifetime, Gendun Gyatso served as the abbot of Drepung and then Sera monastery. He also brought together the three major Gelugpa monasteries (Sera, Drepung and Ganden) each year for the annual Monlam Chenmo Prayer Festival."
- Austerlitz -- 88.75.66.96 (talk) 21:44, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- "When the high priests came looking for the incarnation of the previous Dalai Lama, they found him when he was 17 years old." this is a quotation from the article.
Since the third Dalai Lama actually has been the first one and the title has been given to his predecessors only postmortem, this information is wrong. Some changing has to take place.

- What this means is that they came looking for the reincarnation of the person who is known to us as the previous Dalai Lama. They knew him by a different name, but they still came looking for his reincarnation.—Nat Krause(Talk!·What have I done?) 00:59, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
Yes. Did they come looking for the reincarnation of Gendun Drub? :Austerlitz -- 88.75.211.80 (talk) 10:45, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
names
" The 2nd Dalai Lama Gendun Gyatso was born in Central Tibet to a farming family. His father, a ngakpa (married tantric practitioner) of the Nyingma lineage, had visions before his son's birth that the child's name should be Gendun Drubpa. After the son's birth, the young child would insist his name was Pema Dorje (the birth name of the 1st Dalai Lama) and claimed that he belongs at Tashillhunpo. The father though named him Sangye Pel and tutored him for years."

- A BRIEF HISTORY: DREPUNG LOSELING COLLEGE "Panchen Sonam Dakpa (1478-1554) became one of the main disciples of the Second Dalai Lama Gedun Gyatso (1476- 1542). As directed by the Second Dalai Lama, Panchen Sonam Dakpa became the Loseling abbot and taught there for about six years. He took a great responsibility for its academic activities and administrations. For the benefit of all beings, he bestowed upasaka vows to the Third Dalai Lama and named him Sonam Gyatso Pel Sangpo."

Biography Assessment
[edit]An assessment was requested, and I've updated the class to Start. I suggest for further improvement consider more structuring of the article including headings, and add more data from additional sources (starting with those listed in the references and further reading sections). Lastly, some of the citations are just showing up as a numbered external link. Using something like Template:Cite web would help those be more human readable and allow inclusion of the article's title rather than just the URL. 1bandsaw (talk) 18:06, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
