Naming and notability

[edit]

Greetings. Notability -- established by the assertion of an emerging new field, evidence of extensive recent publications, work by AJS, etc.

Help with list of gender and Judaism theorists etc?

Change name to Gender and Jewish studies?

Thanks muchly. HG | Talk 20:51, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Agree Gender and Jewish studies would better describe it. By long custom, the term "Judaism" has been used in Wikipedia articles to refer specifically to matters of religion and terms like "Jews" or "Jewish" are used to describe a more cultural or ethnic sense, which what the article is aiming at. Best, --Shirahadasha 00:21, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Come to think of it, since it fits in very nicely with Category:Judaic studies in academia, how about Gender and Judaic studies? Best, --Shirahadasha 03:48, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Naming should be based on the most common terminology. My initial reaction was based partly on the RRC initiative and partly on my own impressions. Also, I suspect the article say much more about Gender and Judaism/Jewish (culture/history) -- i.e., the findings or debates in the field, not merely the academic activity, with summary style units to the women-related and lgbt articles. HG | Talk 15:16, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
PS -- the importance shouldn't be over-rated. If the article is limited to the academic activity, the importance is rather low, if it's about the subject matter then I agree it is high. HG | Talk 15:18, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

‎→ bugzilla:012900 · "linkify ISBN: foo and ISBN: foo, bar, etc. beside ISBN foo_bar" —Preceding unsigned comment added by לערי ריינהארט (talkcontribs) 22:21, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dear friends; Please remove « : » after « ISBN » because of the MediaWiki parser:

ISBN: 9780881259711.
ISBN 9780881259711.
generates:
ISBN: 9780881259711.
ISBN 9780881259711.

One can see that the second example generates the special:Booksources/9780881259711 link but the first does not. Best regards

Thanks, לערי. Colonectomy done. Onward to the next procedure... HG | Talk 06:04, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

FYI:

  1. I have seen ISBN references using spaces as ISBN 0 88125 971 3
  2. In order to identify some of the pages refering to a book I use links as
    google: as_sitesearch=wikipedia.org&as_oq=0881259713+0-88125-971-3+9780881259711+978-0-88125-971-1
such a search link would not identify ISBN 0-8-8-1-2-5-9-7-1-3

Best regards

[edit]

What is this bad article? There are no linked sources with the article claims. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A01:E35:8A8D:FE80:CFD:D2BF:CC94:9A38 (talk) 06:16, 14 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Terms Section

[edit]

The 'terms' section appears to be pretty much copy-pasted from this pdf from some organization called 'Trans Torah'. Should probably be rewritten and/or better sourced (I might get around to this later, but I'm leaving this up in case I don't.) Gilded Snail (talk) 18:42, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Article title and content not consonant

[edit]

Is this article about the intersection of gender studies and Judaism or queer theory and Judaism? Or is it about gender and/in Judaism/Jewish culture? The title suggests that latter, but the content is significantly biased toward the former. If consensus is that this article is to be about gender studies or queer theory and Judaism, the title should be amended to reflect this. newmila (talk) 15:24, 5 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Education assignment: Gender and Sexuality in World Civilizations I

Hi all,

I am planning on making a few changes to this article as apart of a class assignment. After reviewing the Talk page I would agree that the article title should be changed and that the content of this article should be edited to reflect that. "Gender and Jewish Studies" as someone previously suggested seems like a far more appropriate title having read through this article and related articles. I am planning on adding some redirects at the top of the page to differentiate this article from related articles. I plan on editing the introductory section, adding some content and citations to make the article more clear. I also plan on adding content and citations to the terms section. As another user noted it seems to be more or less copied from one source and is missing citations, also could be expanded upon.

Gender and Jewish studiesGender identity in Judaism – Seems to be a more logical title for this topic GnocchiFan (talk) 13:36, 10 December 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. Arbitrarily0 (talk) 14:38, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I think the better approach would be to edit this entry to (re)move content about Judaism. Perhaps add that content to the main entry for Judaism or create a new entry for Gender identity in Judaism. The Scope section makes it clear that the entry was intended to be about Jewish studies, not Judaism itself. See above (1, 2) that this has been a longstanding problem for this entry. -- Jaireeodell (talk) 17:39, 10 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
