westfield spamming this article

[edit]

While i'm pleased that a high class outfit like westfield likes to be associated with Sleepy Hollow, it seems to me that 8 mentions of their unpleasant and ugly mall is a mite excessive. I am astonished that tourists are apparently attracted to its pleasing array of greasy food and chinese clothing. Here's a good investigation, why did VCAT really allow them to build the ugly bridge across Yarra St, ruining the view? Greglocock (talk) 07:17, 1 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Economy

[edit]

Some factual issues here: "CSIRO Division of Textiles and Fibres Technology" in Belmont has been closed for some time now. There is now the Australian Research Council's : Future Fibres Hub based at Deakin University, but someone with better knowledge (more time) should edit this section.

From this article: "Around 90 staff currently working in Geelong at CSIRO Material Science & Engineering’s Belmont site will be re-located to the Waurn Ponds campus."

IS Geelong Officially a city?

[edit]

I believe this definition of Geelong as single city is based on the ABS definition. However, does the VIC government recognize Geelong and its various as a single city or is that title more for the City of Greater Geelong? If the latter then the actual Geelong is a locality that is urban in nature is it not  ? Do the residents of Hamlyn Heights for example consider themselves to be in the Geelong city while residents of Avalon consider themselves to be part of a single town of its own ?

Geelong was officially declared a city on 8 December 1910 – here is the Victorian Government Gazette which formalised its city status. The City of Greater Geelong did not exist until 1993. The ABS does not "define" cities or towns – they may define a Significant Urban Area based on an urban conurbation with a population higher than 10,000. Avalon's population is very small (less than 300), it is a locality and would not be considered a town, and Hamlin Heights is definitely a suburb of the city of Geelong (as well as of the City of Greater Geelong). --Canley (talk) 13:25, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
