[edit]

The History section of this article has a lot of Red links. If there is anyone who knows some helpful information, they might be able to improve those parts of this article. For example, if a "destination" article (that used to be pointed to, by a certain link) was re-named, then someone who knows the new name could update the link to point to the new name.

If the "destination" article was NOT re-named, but was deleted, then it might be appropriate to change the link to become a plain word, or sequence of words -- without any double square brackets.

Just a suggestion. --Mike Schwartz (talk) 03:50, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Updating Article (Request from a COI)

[edit]

Hey there! I'm a COI for Games for Change and I'd love to support updating this article, but I know that it is discouraged to edit the article myself. I've added a collection of sources and material currently available on my sandbox (User:Dinogames77/sandbox) as of 9/28/20. It's a really cool organization, and it's a shame that the page primarily addresses it as a community of practice. Hope someone can tackle this and expand the stub! (HUGE thank you to the Wikimedia Community for walking me through the steps to make this happen!)

It's also worth discussing the removal of the "Example" section (Games Curation on the sandbox), since it talks in great detail about Sweatshop, which has no affiliation to G4C other than being on the website's games page. Dinogames77 (talk) 18:43, 28 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I've just added the request edit template to this. As one of the individuals who helped Dinogames77 learn about the COI and process for making edits, I'll try to take a look at this soon if no one else sees it first. -- ferret (talk) 17:23, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Dinogames77: I'm sorry for how long your request is taking to be answered, and thank you for your suggestions on how to improve the article. Your proposed sandbox article appears to represent quite a large rewrite from the current version of the article, and so to implement your request, an uninvolved editor would have to spend quite a bit of time reading both versions of the article to make sure your proposed changes stick to Wikipedia's policies (such as WP:V and WP:NPOV), which may be why no other editor has taken up your request so far. To improve the chances of your request being answered, I would suggest making a few, shorter, and more specific edit requests (such as "add this paragraph of text to that section", or "change X to Y"). Such shorter requests would take less time for other editors to review, and as such, would have a stronger chance of being answered. Seagull123 Φ 18:43, 6 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This completely slipped my mind, and I will try my best to take a look at it. -- ferret (talk) 20:02, 10 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Ferret: Thank you for replying! When working on revisions in my edit request, I used WP:VG/S to verify many of my sources, so I hope that's helpful for you or an uninvolved editor. To start with a shorter request, it would be great to add an organization infobox. Most info can be found transparently on the website[1] except for the founders. G4C was founded by Benjamin Stokes, Suzanne Seggerman, [2] and Barry Joseph[3] in 2004. It would also help to clarify the opening section. I'd include that "Games for Change is a nonprofit organization that encourages developers to create serious games and immersive media. The organization highlights impact games at its annual festival and supports developers who are using digital games to make a difference.[4] Games for Change also inspires youth to explore civic issues and learn STEAM skills through the G4C Student Challenge, where they bring the fundamentals of game design to the classroom."[5] Different company programs and initiatives have worked to build a community of practice ("community of practice" is actually our mission language so it seems like it should be removed). If you or anyone can tackle those first two changes (infobox and general section), that would be an awesome start to building this struggling article! -- Dinogames77 (talk) 20:57, 10 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Dinogames77 and Seagull123: I've implemented the sandbox with minor tweaks. I've moved the Further reading to a refideas template here on the talk page for possible future improvements. I rewrote a fair bit of the new lead, as I felt it had the most promotional tone with text such as "inspires", "encourages", "drive real-world impact", "building the field". Several other sections of the article were already present with little change. The new sections did not seem to have anything overly promotional. All in all, I felt the sandbox represented an improvement over the previous article version, even if some of it may still need some slight tone-tweaks. -- ferret (talk) 01:53, 11 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
