Freezing is not manhwa.
[edit]Freezing is manga because it belongs to the publisher in Japan.58.91.153.116 (talk) 06:22, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
- So, you mean to tell me... the criteria of "manga" has to be published in Japan... as opposed to the original creator being Japanese? When did this change? KyuuA4 (Talk:キュウ) 21:51, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
- Criterion? Well. "Created by a Japanese author and/or for sale in Japan". Зелёный Кошак 18:57, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
- Neither Dall-Young Lim and Kwang-Hyun Kim (the creators of Freezing - um - this series) is Japanese. They are Korean. KyuuA4 (Talk:キュウ) 10:56, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
- And what? Freezing is not created for the Korean market, but for Japan. If, saying for example, Hayao Miyazaki would create any work for sales primarily in South Korea, it would be manhva, not manga, although it is Japanese. Now a nationality of the author secondary, the primary market. Especially over the manga and anime works not one person but a group of artists, animators - and this group is not always homogeneous nationality. Зелёный Кошак 00:21, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- Somehow, I find your Hayao Miyazaki for Korean example to be doubtful. Then again, the idea is speculative; and so would any other point I'd end up making on my side of the argument. For added speculation, I will wonder about a Hayao Miyazaki work made for America. Quite frankly, this will degenerate into a "what is manga/anime" vs "what isn't" argument. Nevertheless, I find it interesting that the "nationality" criteria has finally bent. Once upon a time, I had to contend with the "Japanese creator only" mindset. At the same time, it will be interesting when a non-Asian finally makes a manga/anime; but the talent pool here has only begun. KyuuA4 (Talk:キュウ) 12:25, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- It already happened. These three artists are not Japanese but their works are publish in Japan and still called manga. Hopefully this will end this debate. --FonFon Alseif (talk) 13:54, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you, good sir. KyuuA4 (Talk:キュウ) 19:54, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- Non-Japanese have been involved in Japanese manga for years. The three linked examples above are recent, but 李學仁 (Yi Ha-Gin) is Korean and has scripted 蒼天航路 (Beyond the Heavens) in the 90s. Frédéric Boilet is a Frenchman who lives in Japan and produces work aimed at the Japanese market, and there are other examples besides (mostly untranslated into English) still in print. The only criteria for determining manga/manwha should really be original language of the work and initial release of the work in a given market, but even this is ridiculous since the characters are transcribed the same (the only difference being whether the second character is simplified from 畫 into 画). The world doesn't need any more Japan vs (insert random country here) arguments. Jun Kayama (talk) 05:54, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Freezing (manhwa) → Freezing (manga) — 58.91.153.116 07:07, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
- While it does seem reasonable (British creators working on American comic books would have this work categorised as American comics titles) the article is unsourced so there is no actual evidence to base this move on. So without a source saying the Japanese comic was the very first place it was published in we are in a bit of limbo. Simplest fix would be to move this to the more general disambiguation of Freezing (comics). (Emperor (talk) 15:15, 7 April 2010 (UTC))
- I agree with Emperor here. There's no need to overspecify this. — Gavia immer (talk) 21:47, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Freezing (comics) → Freezing (manga) — Anime News Network classifies Dall-Young Lim's work, that was serialized in the Japanese magazine Comic Valkyrie, as a manga [1]. His other work ANN classifies as a manhwa [2]. According reliable sources the title should be changed to "Freezing (manga)" as it's required for anime- and manga-related articles (|WP:MOS-AM).— Al3xil ✉ 02:31, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose The "references" the nominator cites is to a user-edited encyclopedia at Anime News Network, which is an unreliable source. (See WP:MANGA/RS for further details.) Nominator has not presented any other evidence that the work is considered a "manga" (Japanese comic) by either experts or reliable sources in the field. —Farix (t | c) 18:22, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
- Well, mr. farix don't mislead me saying "ANN is an unreliable source", because according WP:MANGA/RS#Situational: ANN is divided into sections of varying quality. For news, reviews, and release information, ANN is a reliable source and close to being a newspaper of record for anime and manga. Here is ANN news link: News: Freezing Manga's TV Anime Confirmed for Next Spring and other reliable sources according WP:MANGA/RS: Ain't It Cool News: Freezing - adaptation of the manga, scheduled for next spring. Manga News: Freezing, le manga de Kim Kwang Hyun. Manga Sanctuary: Freezing review. Type: Manga Animeland Freezing review. Pour info', même si les auteurs sont coréen, il s’agit bien d’un manga publié dans une revue japonaise. (sapienti sat). If you still do not consider his work as a manga, remove untrue words from the entry: "Freezing (フリージング?) is a Japanese manga series". — Al3xil ✉ 00:03, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
- Actually what was said is that ANN's encylopedia section that was originally cited was unreliable since it is user submitted not that the entire site was.--76.66.180.54 (talk) 01:35, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
- Agree Freezing is a manga that is serialize in Japanese monthly manga magazine so therefore it should be rename as a manga.--FonFon Alseif (talk) 03:16, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- Support. I note that this is reversing a previous move listed as uncontroversial [3]. It obviously is controversial, and further I think a case has been made above and not answered that the move should now be reversed. Andrewa (talk) 19:01, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose until someone can provide a reliable source asserting that "First serialization" is in Japanese. --KrebMarkt (talk) 19:13, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
- Support. This is the first time I've seen a Japanese comics on Wikipedia under (comics) instead of (manga). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 09:59, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

Lana Rinchen or Rana Linchen?
[edit]Which is the correct english spelling of her name? It doesn't help that the anime uses both names above. Futhrmore, since her name is Chinese, it should be Lana Linchen since there is no R in chinese names. --FonFon Alseif (talk) 05:48, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
It is most definitely Lana. It is romanized this way in a color page in volume 6.75.128.19.177 (talk) 08:59, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
So a professional transcript that uses "Rana Linchen" by FUNimation (APPROVED by the Japanese) is incorrect? And FYI she's from Tibet not China. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.91.158.230 (talk) 01:14, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
- Using Rana as Funimation has published its anime version first. The manga will begin release in 2015 by Seven Seas, and if they use Lana instead of Rana, it can be added as an alternative spelling. -AngusWOOF (talk) 17:29, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
"official" Freezing doujinshi by same author and artist
[edit]While somewhat unusual, Dall-Young Lim and Kwang-Hyun Kim have done a number of doujinshi based on their own creations (Freezing, in this example) under the doujin circle name CDPA and released it at Comiket. Would that be suitable to put in the "Other media" section? Sera404 (talk) 10:14, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
Terminology section
[edit]The Terminology section should be deleted and spread to the Chapters and Characters articles, especially the E-Pandoras, Valkyries, Genetics academies and Chevalier. I've put in some definitions under the Characters section. Terms such as baptism, accel turn, and tempest turn, or explained briefly on first use, pandora mode can be footnoted. Limiter and Pandora are already explained sufficiently in the synopsis. -AngusWOOF (talk) 17:37, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
- I don't know anything about the series but usually "Terminology" sections have some info that can be incorporated to the plot. No? I say it because I remember what was done with Shakugan no Shana. The discussions over such section can be found here. Gabriel Yuji (talk) 19:45, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
- Okay, I've moved most of the terminology to the characters section as footnotes. The major names such as Pandoras and Limiters are retained on the main page with Nihongo. -AngusWOOF (talk) 15:03, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

I wonder if the fact that the author is Korean would justify adding Category:Manhwa here? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 04:28, 11 July 2020 (UTC)
