Adding video on how to make a bee hive frame?

[edit]

I am working with the Global Lives Project, a non-profit organization that captures a library of human life experience that provides educational insight into people's lives and occupations around the world. I have a video of a Serbian man named Dusan Lazic, who lives in Vojka, Serbia and has been a beekeeper since 2004. This video very clearly demonstrates the activities and techniques involved in building a bee hive frame. I thought it would be a cool video to post onto the page for educational insights. The video can be found here. Do you think this would be a cool / valuable addition to the page, so that people can see first hand how a frame is built? Thoughts? Thank you. Move?

The result of the proposal was moved to Hive frame. All of the names discussed are within policy, and there's a weak consensus for this one. --BDD (talk) 23:28, 2 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Frame (beehive)Beehive frame

I'd be happy to support a move to Hive frame if you can show evidence that this is the common name and is unambiguous. Sorry, but one source is anecdotal, so it proves nothing in this context. Wilhelm Meis (☎ Diskuss | ✍ Beiträge) 02:37, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Better to just leave it as frame. Apteva (talk) 04:05, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
But it's not just frame, it's frame (beehive). That's why we're discussing a move to natural disambiguation so we can lose the parenthetical dab. I'm honestly open to any evidence of what is the most common unambiguous name for it. I think that is beehive frame, but I could be convinced otherwise if there is evidence to support a counter-proposal. Wilhelm Meis (☎ Diskuss | ✍ Beiträge) 04:17, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I proposed the Frame (beehive)Beehive frame move. I have no objection to Hive frame if that is the general consensus. 188.29.25.115 (talk) 16:58, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
WP:NATURAL unequivocally states that Frame (beehive) is wrong. It says:
1. Natural disambiguation: If it exists, choose an alternative name that the subject is also commonly called in English, albeit not as commonly as the preferred-but-ambiguous title. - 'Frame' is preferred-but-ambiguous, 'Beehive frame' and 'Hive frame' are alternative names that the subject is also commonly called in English.
2. Parenthetical disambiguation: If natural disambiguation is not possible, add a disambiguating term in parentheses, after the ambiguous name. - which would be 'Frame (beehive)' but only if natural disambiguation ('Beehive frame' / 'Hive frame') were not possible. 188.29.25.115 (talk) 00:23, 27 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Rationale for amended !vote: To reiterate, WP:NATURAL is paramount here, but WP:COMMONNAME and WP:PRECISE also apply. Since a naturally disambiguated name is preferred over a parenthetical name, the question comes down to preference between Beehive frame and Hive frame. WP:PRECISE would indicate that Hive frame should be preferred if it is unambiguous, though WP:COMMONNAME would give preference to whatever name prevails in reliable secondary sources. My own research has not turned up any alternative meanings for "hive frame" that do not relate to beekeeping, but has revealed a nominal preference for "hive frame" over "beehive frame" as COMMONNAME for this topic. Since "hive frame" is also the least precise unambiguous name, it is also supported by PRECISE. For these reasons, I have decided to amend my !vote to support moving to Hive frame. No mention of plastic foundation?

[edit]

It seems that there is some bias in this article in mentioning wax foundation and no mention of plastic foundation. This may be due to the fact that most of the quoted sources on the Wax Foundation page are from Serbian beekeepers in Serbian. I don't read Serbian.

There are many beekeepers who feel that plastic foundation is evil and should not be used, and there are plenty of beekeepers who consider it an essential tool in beekeeping.

It may be that the solution is to modify the Wax Foundation page to be about Bee Hive Foundation and then change the link text. The way this article reads though, there is no mention of the existence of plastic foundation. We won't even talk about aluminum foundation, which apparently was made during WWII when plastic was scarce. This stuff still appears in beehives occasionally, much to the surprise of the beekeeper when (s)he scrapes the wax off an old frame.
