Fort Wayne Mastodons
[edit]Since they are branded as Fort Wayne Mastodons should we move to "Fort Wayne Mastodons"? Quidster4040 (talk) 20:04, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Quidster4040: Not unless it is the WP:COMMONNAME, which a quick search show it isn't. Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 20:11, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Corkythehornetfan: Alright. Quidster4040 (talk) 21:26, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Quidster4040: and @Corkythehornetfan: Not sure if it's time to revisit a potential name change... but:
- The NCAA is now using the "Fort Wayne" name. See the NCAA's home page for the school; although the URL uses "ipfw", the page is prominently called "Fort Wayne", and IPFW is listed as "Fort Wayne" on the NCAA list of member schools.
- ESPN is somewhat inconsistent. Its home page for the men's basketball team calls the team "Fort Wayne", and its Summit League standings use "Fort Wayne". Stories by ESPN staff are now using "Fort Wayne" consistently (see here, here, and here), though the AP seems to use "IPFW" and "Fort Wayne" interchangeably, such as here and here. — Dale Arnett (talk) 04:59, 17 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Dale Arnett: CBS Sports seems to use the new brand name as well. If you want to request the move, I'll support it. Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 23:39, 17 December 2016 (UTC)

IPFW Mastodons → Fort Wayne Mastodons – IPFW officially announced in August 2016 that it would change its athletic brand to "Fort Wayne", effective immediately. Since then, the NCAA, ESPN, and CBS Sports have mostly changed to the new brand name; for more details, see discussion on the talk page. IPFW's main conference, The Summit League, has used the "Fort Wayne" branding since 2012 as part of a conference initiative; for details on this issue, see the "Branding" section of the main article. - Yep, clearly new branding, should be changed. Ref[1] Lincolning (talk) 22:15, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
- Support per WP:COMMONNAME, and as discussed above. Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 23:54, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
