Significance of Mercury

[edit]

I think there needs to be more made about how the line of full-size Ford and the full-size flagship Mercury have a shared past right from the beginning from 1938-1939, as the first Mercury began life as a re-branded full-size Ford. Through the years, they have shared a common platform and engineering, and today, with the removal of Crown Victorias from retail sales, the Grand Marquis is, for all intents and purposes, the last of the full-size Fords (if defined by body on frame construction, RWD, and V8 engine). Even since 1980, the Panther platform for full-size Fords has unified Lincolns with Fords and Mercurys; no longer does the Town Car (formerly Continental or Mark VII) have its own platform or separate engineering. --SteveCof00 (talk) 22:26, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
