"Thus he was able to pay the barbarian mercenaries who consisted most of the contemporary Roman Army" should read "Thus he was able to pay the barbarian mercenaries who comprised most of the contemporary Roman Army."

No - you're confusing comprise with compose or constitute. I've changed the offending word to "constituted".

Fall of the Empire

[edit]

I'm one of those who considers the Roman Empire to have continued until 1453. With that in mind, I edited the last sentence from "fall of the Roman Empire" to "fall of the Roman Empire, at least in the West". Not sure what any of you think of this. Nyttend 11:14, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This page lifted from Gibbon?

[edit]

The language on this page is quite stilted and formal. Is this page copied from Gibbon's book? --mgaved 15:32, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Flavius"

[edit]

A few days ago at Template talk:Did you know Johnbod called Orestes "Flavius Orestes", using the redirect. I can't help wondering where this has come from? Is it something to do with the film The Last Legion, or the novel by Valerio Massimo Manfredi? Moonraker (talk) 07:34, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Death of Orestes

[edit]

The article on Romulus Augustus and the article on the Deposition Of Romulus Augustus both say that Orestes was executed by Odoacer, but this article about Orestes says nothing about his death at all. Curious. Dgndenver (talk) 08:10, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
