[edit]

Wikipedia has chosen "Flathead mullet" as the primary name for the species Mugil Cephalus, although it does not list "Flathead mullet" as the common name for this fish anywhere world wide. While a good description for the fish I feel it should appear under the name "striped mullet, which is its common name in America.

In addition, the article should mention the presence of a muscular gizzard which these fish use to process the bottom mud on which they feed.

I have modified the article on Silver mullet, which mentions it in passing, to identify Striped mullet as mugil cephalus. Don 19:22, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article name swap

[edit]

I originally agreed with Don; I even exchanged "Flathead mullet" and "Striped mullet" because the article was written as the latter. However after consulting Fishbase & looking at other fish specialist sources I reverted and edited "striped" to "flathead" except keeping "striped" as one of many alternative names & the one most used in the USA. Please add herein the Indian name for the Mullet: In Hindi & Marathi the Mullet is reffered to as "Boi". Thanks. ~Akshay.

Cuisine status quibble

[edit]

I do not think anyone in Florida would label mullet as a delicacy; more on the order of 'basic food fish.' A delicacy would be pompano, or these days perhaps, red snapper.
