discussion of bias

[edit]

independence is discussed with the implication that observers are free from bias. There are also passages comparing it to self-collected data by fishers that is at risk of bias.

The phrasing, in my opinion, is not neutral. The strengths of observers should not be set by the weaknesses of self-reported data. Furthermore, there are unacknowledged biases in observer sampling, such as poor estimates of catch sizes and convenience sampling around shift patterns.
