Talk:Feist (dog breed)
Genetics...
[edit]It's proven that gene flow has happened between the Rat Terrier and the Basenji,[1] and thus even more likely to have happened between the Feist and the Basenji i believe, and perhaps this why the Rat Terrier show a relationship to the Basenji? Feist is actually even more of a Basenji lookalike than the Rat Terrier. Regards tB (talk) 18:11, 3 August 2017 (UTC)
- That might explain why the Feist is quieter than the Rat Terrier. Monado (talk) 13:09, 24 March 2024 (UTC)

Feist (dog) → Feist dog – Per WP:NCDAB, Feist (dog) implies a dog named Feist. Traumnovelle (talk) 01:54, 3 March 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. – robertsky (talk) 23:14, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
- Support per nomination, as exemplified by main title headers for entries delineating famous dogs — Cheeka (dog), Cosmo (dog), Darla (dog), Higgins (dog), Jean (dog), Teddy (dog), Koko (dog), Madison (dog), Petra (dog) or Skippy (dog), to name but ten. A similar nomination is also currently active at Talk:Brittany (dog)#Requested move 2 March 2024. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 19:42, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
- I just want to point out that all your examples are famous dogs but this is an article about a type of dog. I'm not wholly certain they need to share formatting. Annwfwn (talk) 23:13, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
- I believe the user is pointing out how famous dogs use Name (dog) as the standard title and using it to support the idea that Feist (dog) implies a dog named Feist. Traumnovelle (talk) 02:32, 12 March 2024 (UTC)

- Also, since Boxer (dog) and Akita (dog) have now been moved to Boxer (dog breed) and Akita (dog breed), if Feist is considered a dog breed, then Feist (dog) can be likewise moved to Feist (dog breed). —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 01:50, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
- Comment
leaning toward oppose: I reject the idea that "Feist (dog)" implies an individual dog named Feist. A more important question is whether "Feist dog" is a commonly used, natural-sounding term. See Akita (dog), Armant (dog), Barbet (dog), Boxer (dog), Brittany (dog), Chihuahua (dog), Chinook (dog), Dalmatian (dog), Harrier (dog), Hokkaido (dog), Kaikadi (dog), Kintamani (dog), Smithfield (dog), St. Bernard (dog), Talbot (dog), Tosa (dog). That's not an exhaustive list, but I suspect it includes most such article titles. — BarrelProof (talk) 06:32, 4 March 2024 (UTC)- I'll make request moves for those too later. A lot of those pages however were moved back to the parentheses after consensus found the natural disambiguation to be better.[1] Armant dog was moved to Armant (dog) by a user now banned for vandalism who never got consensus to move the page back after consensus supported moving it to Armant dog.
- Now as to whether 'Feist dog' is used: [2][3][4][5][6] Even this very article uses 'feist dog' on one occasion. Traumnovelle (talk) 08:19, 4 March 2024 (UTC) Traumnovelle (talk) 08:19, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- I don't know about this one, but "Akita dog", "Boxer dog", "Chihuahua dog", "Dalmation dog" and "St. Bernard dog" do not seem natural to me. — BarrelProof (talk) 17:53, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- I see many results using 'Akita Dog' and the Japanese name is Akita Inu meaning Akita Dog, although Akita Inu is also acceptable as a natural disambugation and is used in Shiba Inu and Kai Ken. Hill's and Purina use Boxer dog with a quick search. Chihuahua dog is used by PDSA, Britannica and Purina. I will do a better search with proper sources if I need to do a requested move for any of them, I might do a bulk move. Dalmatian dog is used: https://www.oed.com/search/dictionary/?scope=Entries&q=Dalmatian%20dog Traumnovelle (talk) 18:00, 4 March 2024 (UTC)

- I struck out my "leaning toward oppose" above. At this point, since many other articles have been moved by two other multi-article RMs and some bold moves, it seems desirable to be consistent with the outcome of those. The breeds now seem to generally have the form "[Something] dog" or "[Something] (dog breed)", so one of those should also be used for this topic. — BarrelProof (talk) 18:13, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

- Comment Note similar ongoing RMs at Talk:Brittany (dog), Talk:Boxer (dog), and Talk:Akita (dog). 162 etc. (talk) 05:57, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
- Two of those RMs have been closed, so Talk:Boxer (dog) and Talk:Akita (dog) (and similar grouped pages) are now found at Talk:Boxer (dog breed) and Talk:Akita (dog breed). — BarrelProof (talk) 23:28, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

- Move to Feist (dog breed) per other similar RMs recently. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 16:53, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
- Move to Feist (dog breed) per the above. Best option, since it certainly would appear from the current title that the subject is an individual dog named Feist. BD2412 (talk) 17:48, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
- Move to the alternative proposed dab of Feist (dog breed), which seems more natural than Feist dog. -2pou (talk) 18:40, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
