Article title
[edit]WP:COMMONNAME says
Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's "official" name as an article title; it generally prefers to use the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language reliable sources.
- Player profile pages using "Fat Lever" include ESPN, Real GM, Fox Sports, Basketball Reference
- Stories from his three playing markets Denver - Former Nuggets Point Guard ‘Fat’ Lever Honored, Portland, Dallas.
- NY Times story - A Warrior Can Join the Likes of Chamberlain, Bird and Fat Lever, A Portland Trail Blazers book , NBA.com interview, NBA2, NBA3. AP game story, Arizona State - Fat Lever to have his No. 12 honored
- While the preference of the article's subject isn't a factor, his trading cards are initially Lafayette Lever with Portland and Denver, then Fat Lever with Dallas. All of the examples are signed with "Fat Lever." That may point to broader adoption of the nickname over time.
While there are certainly usage examples of Lafayette Lever and Lafayette "Fat" Lever, Fat Lever appears to conform with WP:COMMONNAME and therefore this article should be renamed. UW Dawgs (talk) 14:29, 11 April 2017 (UTC)
- I have restored the page to "Fat Lever", as it's the longstanding consensus title. If a move to a new title is warranted, it should come after discussion, as per WP:RM. —C.Fred (talk) 01:45, 12 April 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks, Fred. I wish I had more carefully reviewed the article history to see that @The rakish fellow: had twice moved it to Lafayette Lever without initiating any discussion, before "researching" the Fat Lever rationale which appears to be obvious and non-controversial. UW Dawgs (talk) 03:34, 12 April 2017 (UTC)
Should the article explain the origin of the nickname? Davidkasdan (talk) 00:47, 22 May 2021 (UTC)davidkasdan
- @Davidkasdan: That would make sense to mention in the early life section (if we had one)—and if there are reliable sources for the origin. —C.Fred (talk) 00:59, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Davidkasdan: I added it. Feel free to be bold and improve articles too. Regards.—Bagumba (talk) 07:09, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
