Removing "Citations by Numbers" Section

[edit]

From the article: "Perhaps not surprisingly, popular usage [in newspapers] tends to peak not with any political event, but rather with a TV series The Fall Guy, which premiered November 4, 1981 and ended May 2, 1986. The numerous citations are probably TV listing in the papers, but it may have been the fuel which the Iran-Contra hearings sparked into a flame. Alternatively, this may merely say something about the types of reporters working at the time."

Clearly this is a pointless section. Barring objection, I'm removing it. Candent shlimazel (talk) 12:14, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Origins

[edit]

The origins of this word seems pretty obvious to me. (Think of phases like "he took a fall", "the business is going down", "his grades are falling" etc.) I mean, literally falling down and metaphorically falling down are more or less the same. Who knows where the specific phase "fall guy" came from, probably from several sources. But this article needs to be severely simplified, anyone looking up information about "fall guy" is going to be overwhelmed.Editfromwithout (talk) 19:38, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not that simple. It could even be related to the blame "falling on" someone, or someone breaking the perpetrator's fall (by being hurt themselves). Bataaf van Oranje (Prinsgezinde) (talk) 14:46, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

citations formatting

[edit]

The formatting of the citations is a little off. I'll plan to clean up as many as I can into proper formatting: Author, [URL "Title"], Publication, Date Mamedilaol (talk) 18:21, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Red Herring

[edit]

Should that be on the See Also list? --75.118.125.132 (talk) 00:13, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"Patsy" needs its own entry

[edit]

I find that a search for "patsy" leads to "fall guy" but the two are not the same. A fall guy is made to take responsibility for something not of his doing. A patsy is victimized, is a "dupe." GianniBGood (talk) 06:52, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
