The result of the proposal was all moved per consensus.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 04:53, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
Falcón (state) → Falcón — If you look up the name of each of these states, they redirect to the page (state). Per WP:NCGN, they should just have the state name. warrior4321 21:51, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- Anzoátegui (state) → Anzoátegui
- Apure (state in Venezuela) → Apure
- Carabobo (state) → Carabobo
- Delta Amacuro (state) → Delta Amacuro
- Guárico (state) → Guárico
- Monagas (state in Venezuela) → Monagas
- Nueva Esparta (state) → Nueva Esparta
- Yaracuy (state) → Yaracuy
- Zulia (state) → Zulia
- Support Makes perfect sense Chipmunkdavis (talk) 22:04, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- Support the move of all but it would be nice if others could weigh in on the relative notability of the Apure River vis-à-vis Apure (state in Venezuela) and Nueva Esparta, El Salvador vis-à-vis Nueva Esparta (state). — AjaxSmack 23:19, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- Support I don't think there's a problem with Apure River that cannot be solved by a hatnote. I would suggest that Nueva Esparta (state) be moved to Nueva Esparta, Venezuela, rather than argue over whether there is a primary topic in this case: there probably is, but not all that decisively. Skinsmoke (talk) 05:59, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
- Support moving all of them - as Skinsmoke says, the Apure problem is easily solved with a hatnote plus there is a reduced chance of confusion as the river mainly flows through the state. On the question of Neuva Sparta, I think the state is the primary topic because of three factors; it is part of the second tier of Venezuelan government (i.e. the states) whereas the Salvadorean entity is part of the third tier of Salvadorean government (i.e. municipalities which form part of departments); secondly the state at 1,150 km² is about 13 times as large as the municipality (86 km²); thirdly the state (~436,000 people) has almost 200 times the population of the municipality (~2200 people). Green Giant (talk) 00:43, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
- Comment I'd go with that. Skinsmoke (talk) 14:15, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
- Strong oppose. Official name is Estado Falcón, thus in English, Falcón State. But that aside, Falcón is a common name, so it is better for the link quality within in WP to have the state at a page that says so, be it "Falcón (state)" or Falcón State. All links to "Falcón" should then be cleant and directed to the correct page. If the state is at the title "Falcón" one does not see false links. Schwyz (talk) 22:19, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
- Comment The official name does not need to be the page title, just the bold face word in the lead sentence. Look at:
- Province of Ontario → Ontario
- Republic of China, Formosa → Taiwan
- Republic of India, Bhārat, Hindustan → India
