Same thing as an extender?
[edit]I ran accross extenders when taking a look at the canon website [1], but when I tried to find the wikipedia article I couldn't find anything, anywhere, about an "extender". Is it the same thing as an extension tube? It looks like it, but being totally unfamiliar with either I'm quite sure. If it is the same thing, then there should be a link to "extension tube" on the extender disambig page. IronChris | (talk) 21:37, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
- They're teleconverters. Reub2000 01:52, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
- Nice, thanks a lot. IronChris | (talk) 16:57, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
Merging with Tele extender
[edit]I really don't know that much about optics, but I do know that extension tubes and tele extenders both add to the focal length, instead of multiplying it like teleconverters. When I wrote the article on tele extenders, I did not know about this article. Are they the same thing? If so, the article should be merged. --The High Fin Sperm Whale (talk) 03:08, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
- No, extension tubes do not change the focal length of a lens. Also, I've never heard of any device which simply adds to the focal length of a lens. Reub2000 (talk) 04:25, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
Link to Nikon lens list
[edit]The link "List of Nikon compatible lenses with integrated autofocus-motor" was removed as it has no relevant relation to this article which is about extension rings which is independent of manufacturer or lens focus mechanism. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.154.38.99 (talk) 11:58, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
Nikon IX lens
[edit]Has anyone tried using an "extension tube" to adapt a Nikon IX style lense to newer Nikon cameras? The Nikon IX lense was designed to be used with the Nikon Pronea APS cameras and have a shrouded piece of plastic that protrudes into the camera. Some people have cut off this shrouded plastic so they can use Nikon IX lense in newer cameras. My thought was instead of cutting it off, add an extension tube so you can use it for macro use. • Sbmeirow • Talk • 12:32, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
