Converting Electron <-to-or-from-> Proton

The part in question:

 the incoming electrons to it where they can be converted to light photons. 

I am not sure if the term "converted" should be used in this case. Photons can possibly decay to a positron-electron pair, or kinetic energy is transferred from one to another, or the photon is absorbed or emitted when an electron transitions between shells. Comments?
