Talk:List of equipment of the Iranian Army

I removed some statements biased against eastern bloc equipment. I made it more correct, in that Irans Eastern bloc equipment is dated, and thus inferior to current western designs. However, not all eastern bloc equipment is inferior. Indeed, Iran has some cutting edge (the Tor-1 Anti Aircraft is very likly the superior of the Linebacker in every way....its hardly inferior) Try to keep things factual, and relating to Irans military. T-72's are inferior to Challangers and Abrams, but a t-90 or Type 98 is not. So lets keep things in perspective here.

WPMILHIST Assessment
[edit]A fine start, with a navbox, an extensive list of equipment, and a good detailed analysis of the history of Iran's situation regarding equipment. However, I feel it reads as if you've jumped into the middle of a chapter... I must admit, I'm not really sure how to best phrase an introduction, but it needs to start off very generally, before getting into the details of which time periods it was best equipped etc. Thank you though for this; an interesting read. Fair use rationale for Image:Tor-M1-9a330.jpg
[edit]Image:Tor-M1-9a330.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

I dont know who keeps putting those unproven and incorrect numbers in the iranian army equipement area, but i will keep deleting them and puting known numbers where they belong. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eagle07 (talk • contribs) 02:35, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
Not reliable
[edit]Iran never announce its purchase of arms from other nations and rarely just for propaganda purposes. Iran announced a few arm deals like Tor M1, S-300. It is same for the number of the army equipment, Iran never announce the numbers. The other unreliable factor is how far the equipment are advanced. Most of the equipment are upgraded but it is unknown what is upgraded. Therefore it is a mistake to assess Iran army power by the information is presented in wikipedia.
Based on wikipedia information military spending of Iran in 2009 is about 9 billion USD and before 2009 Iran spent is between 6 to 9 billion USD per year. The value for spending for 20 years after Iran-Iraq war is about 150 billion USD. For sure the this money is spent for buying or making equipments. If we check the value for the equipment that is purchased by Iran in last 20 years and mentioned in wikipedia they doesn't balanced the spending. It must be noted that Russian, Chinese or Iranian equipments are at least half price of the western countries similar equipments.
It makes the matter more fussy if one notice that the spending is mentioned in USD are only spending in foreign currency and it does not includes the Iranian currency spending. The amount of Iranian currency spending is unknown. The equal value of the Iranian currency spending in USD could be even bigger than foreign currency spending.
Some equipment pricing:
Mig-29 Unit price 25 million USD
Kilo submarine Unit price 225 million USD
Tor M1 Unit price 25 million USD
T-72 tank Unit price 1.5 million USD
Pantsir S1 Unit price 15 million USD

- First of all, it's wiki, nothing should ever be taken at face value. Wikipedia is best used as a source of semi-reliable information and a good collection of citations and other material to follow. Any good information is cited from a reliable source (and the citation should always be checked for confirmation). Second of all, Iran doesn't have to release the information. Much of their equipment is foreign supplied (said foreign suppliers are usually quite happy to advertise sales, and usually at least have to record them), and some of the equipment dates to before the revolution, and has been observed as being in service. Just because Iran doesn't publish the information itself doesn't mean it's some great mystery. - Jonathon A H (talk) 16:41, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Sourcing problems
[edit]Please stop adding unsourced lists. If anybody is sure that the Iranian army uses some weapon or other, bring a reliable source which says so. By the way, forum chatter is unlikely to be a reliable source. bobrayner (talk) 19:37, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
Again, unsourced lists have been removed. A reference from a manufacturer is not a proper source. Those sources do not provide info on weapons Iran has in their inventory in terms of quantity. They're just product lists.Dkspartan1 (talk) 17:59, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
.No it does not provide its quantity, but it proves that iran has the waepons in inventory, and i see you have a particular interest in Iran, dont delete whole sections and ATGM has global security source and new weapons have their own pagesFarzam1370 (talk) 09:12, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
- I have provided more references for some individual weapons and as i have already pointed out there are some references to Iran's DIO and MODL(Ministry of defense and logistic) that shows which weapons Iranian defense industry are building and these weapons are in use by Islamic Republic of Iran Ground Forces(both Army and IRGC) and about trucks I have provided a page which have pictures of iranian army trucks in 2013 parade(with complete name of the said trucks).Farzam1370 (talk) 15:50, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
Aircraft
[edit]The aircraft section has new photographs but, not all of them are relevant. The photograph of AB 206 Jet Rangers shows IRGC examples. The AB 205 image shows an army Bell 214, while the Mi-17 image an IRI Red Crescent example. They should be posted in their relevant articles and replaced with photographs of actual, IRI Army examples. Dreddmoto (talk) 11:14, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
