Weightlifting / para powerlifting separation
[edit]Para powerlifting was initially introduced to the CWG as a parasport accompaniment to Olympic weightlifting, but with more para weight categories added in recent Games it has since been marketed as a separate sport and been allocated its own medal tables; in my opinion this shows recognition the sport is, in actuality, an adaption of the bench press in non-Olympic powerlifting. Examples listed below:
- Glasgow 2014
- Gold Coast 2018
- Birmingham 2022
In summary, para powerlifting - unlike other parasports in the CWG - is not a true adaption of the "able-bodied" sport it was introduced to accompany. Therefore, at least in its current (2014 onwards) form, it merits its own CWG articles and sections on team articles. Edvid (talk) 10:44, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
- I agree, seems sensible to list para powerlifting separately to (able bodied) weightlifting. Joseph2302 (talk) 16:46, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
