Relevance

[edit]

This is an English article. Information on German employment reference letters is largely irrelevant. I know that these letters have been written in other countries as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.190.127.229 (talk) 05:05, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I strongly agree. This article is about German reference letters, which are unique in the world. There is no reference to reference letters we know in english spoken countries. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.183.128.143 (talk) 17:42, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree with regards to the lack of relevance. In a German business/legal context, employment reference letters are extremely important. The topic is certainly relevant enough to have a short article for non-German speakers. It is, however, debatable whether Reference letter should link to that article. I might clean up and reorganise a bit in the coming weeks, suggestions welcome. EDIT: That said, there are actually factual errors in the current article which I will correct. -- Sigi fikanz (talk) 19:15, 18 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I believe Finland should be added to the list of countries where employees can legally claim an employment reference (without appraisal). All I read here seems to be exactly as Finnish law dictates. Failure to deliver employment reference letter (without delay, generally within a week) to the specs dictated by law will get a company sued by the public prosecutor. Companies will have to respond to a request 5 to 10 years after the end of contract (depending on the requested content). http://www.tyosuojelu.fi/fi/tyotodistus (It's in finnish, but google translate should give understandable version of it as well as take the reader to the online legislative database of finnish law) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.195.198.100 (talk) 17:12, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal

[edit]

Proposal: merge Recommendation letter into Employment reference letter. There is some minimal discussion on the Recommendation letter talk page and in the article text itself about whether they are the same thing. The Recommendation letter article is unreferenced, but on a line about the two being different, there is a cn message with the reason "This needs a reliable source. Have seen terms used equally and interchangeably in academics and business internationally" (from june 2013). A couple sources I found say that a recommendation letter is a more in-depth type of reference letter: [1] [2] [3] but they are usually both mentioned in conjunction with each other. So- I think these should be merged, and Recommendation letter should be a subcategory of "more specific reference letter." I wanted to get some thoughts on this as I could also see the potential benefits of having both articles separate (but both articles could use some improvement either way). I would not recommend to merge these two pages, as they refer to two different things with notable diferences. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 158.109.94.33 (talk) 15:03, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
