Date of birth

[edit]

IMDB has the birthdate as 1964. 2008 Discovery documentary calls him "37 year old".

Well obviously those two statements contradict each other. But a dob of 1960 doesn't seem right either as I doubt he's nearly 50. Who knows...--Pawnkingthree (talk) 15:19, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This article describes him as being "nearly 30" in 1992, which would suggest a birthdate in the early 1960s, so maybe IMDB isn't too far off.--Pawnkingthree (talk) 18:53, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
And this article, from a reliable source (the NY times), dated July 2000, gives his age as 35, suggesting a birthdate of 1964 or 1965. It's pretty clear that we're wrong on WP; therefore I'm going to change the article.--Pawnkingthree (talk) 19:02, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
And here indicates he was 34 in November 1998. I deduce from all of this that a dob of 5 September 1964, not 5 September 1960, is correct.--Pawnkingthree (talk) 19:05, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Degree of fame

[edit]

"and is considered to be one of the most famous sumo wrestlers outside Japan." Who considers him to be one of the most famous? 86.44.78.35 (talk) 15:20, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Correct spelling of first and second name

[edit]

There seems to be confusion over whether it's "Emanuel" or "Emmanuel", AND whether it's "Yarborough" or "Yarbrough." The article was recently moved from Emmanuel Yarborough, where it had been for a number of years, to Emmanuel Yarbrough, with the note "Correct spelling of name per Dave Meltzer." I understand that he's a respected journalist but it would be preferable to have a source listed. Most sources I can see have Emanuel Yarbrough.--Pawnkingthree (talk) 16:49, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Don Spears?

[edit]

Who is this Don Spears? The article says he was his judo coach and an 8th Dan Aikido practitioner, which already makes no sense, but the guy doesn't seem to exist. There is nothing in the FOX article cited that mentions said person and there are exactly zero search results for any combo of the words don, spears, spear, aikido, judo. I can say with certainty that anyone who was an 8th Dan in Aikido or any martial art for that matter would return at least some kind of search results. Looks like vandalism. I will restore the original name, as in the reference.--Pawnkingthree (talk) 12:19, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
