Notability
[edit]It is state that the best way to address notability is to reference "third-party sources about the subject." That has been done. The subject is notable.—Markles 02:13, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
- This is a WP:BIO1E. One burst of WP:RS coverage does not establish notability. Press attention from just being a candidate falls short on WP:POLITICIAN and sustained coverage for primary WP:BIO is not shown. • Gene93k (talk) 02:29, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
- Wow, there's a standard! Of course there is, this is Wikipedia. OK, fair enough. Uh… wait a couple of days and maybe someone will figure out if/how the article meets the standard.—Markles 12:45, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
- OK, I've looked over WP:BIO1E and I agree, in part, with User:Gene93k. O'Reilly is only notable for his participation in this election. Were it not for his running in the United States Senate election in Massachusetts, 2008, this article would again be AFD'd (deleted). However, I'm unsure about AFD'ing because his participation has been more noteworthy than just being a line-item vote-getter for the sake of a tally sheet. However, I think once the primary election (2008-09-16) or the general election (2008-11-04) has passed, then it will be an easier decision to make. Between now and the primary, he may turn out to be more than just a flash in the pan. THEREFORE, I propose we keep the article until the primary election… if he then: A) loses; B) without much fanfare, then we AFD the article. Otherwise, we keep it at least for a little while longer. What do you think?—Markles 12:21, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- I will hold off, but I am a relative inclusionist and he is still vulnerable. Any coverage before 2008 would help. Failing notability, the simplest solution is merging and redirecting the article to the election rather than taking it to AfD. • Gene93k (talk) 12:55, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
Nominated for deletion
[edit]The issue here is establishing notability beyond this one event (the now-lost primary). Since the prod tag was removed and the issue of notability not actually addressed, I have proceeded to the AfD stage.
