Date of birth
[edit]I am no Lewis scholar. But this diff changed her birth date from 1881 to 1882. Here are some sources I found:
1881:
- Homestead, Melissa J.; Kaufman, Anne L. (2008). "Nebraska, New England, New York: Mapping the Foreground of Willa Cather and Edith Lewis's Creative Partnership". Western American Literature. 43 (1): 41–69. doi:10.1353/wal.2008.0050.
- Homestead article
- Homestead, Melissa J. (2021). "1: Nebraska, New England, New York". The only wonderful things : the creative partnership of Willa Cather and Edith Lewis. New York, NY. ISBN 9780190652876.

: CS1 maint: location missing publisher (link)- Note that this is a republication of the first source, but underwent more peer review and finalization than the first one, so seems more reliable.
1882:
- (I do not have full access to this, but my library says it gives date of 1882): King, C.S. and McLaughlin, D.J., 2016. Schoolgirl Smashes, David-and-Jonathan Relationships, and Champagne Friendships: Mining the Archive for LGBT History. Pennsylvania Legacies, 16(1), pp.12-19.
- My library's metadata gives Lewis a lifetime of 1882 to 1972, though I don't know where that data comes from or if it's reliable.
So what to do? I think we can say "1881 or 1882" to show the uncertainty in scholarship. Urve (talk) 21:44, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
