I'm not sure exactly where the duster regained its popularity from in the 1990's, but I'm fairly certain it wasn't from the J. Peterman catalog - the J. Peterman catalog was the fake catalog Elaine worked for on "Seinfeld." Maybe it was in the L.L. Bean catalog? -L. Greenway, Macon, GA

Actually, the catalog was real and came before the Seinfeld reference. See http://www.jpeterman.com/ PKM 04:29, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Can we get a source for the last line? Just because a video game character wears something doesn't automatically mean it's somehow a resurgant fashion force.

The line under discussion is this one, which I have removed on grounds that it's video game fancruft:
Recently, Revolver Ocelot of Metal Gear Solid fame has revived this style of coat in his unique style.

I understand from reading some John Woo articles that his movies had a majour effect on popularity of the duster. Highlandlord 13:38, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Some sections of the trenchcoat article reference the association of black oilcloth and leather dusters with modern punk and goth fashion, but refer to them as "duster style trenchcoats," rather than dusters. Also, in contrast to what this article implies, Australian style dusters are in heavy use in the Australian outback and other primarily equestrian work environments. -18.243.2.118 (talk) 05:22, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article could be improved by clearly distinguishing a duster from a trenchcoat. I think of a duster as having a loose extension from the collar that projects over the shoulders, such as this https://www.walmart.com/ip/RESISTANCE-Unisex-Lightweight-Western-Oilskin-Waterproof-Long-Duster-Coat-Workwear/1466891571 and I may be wrong, because I'm not much of a fashion guy. There are none, and I've been unable to find any. Tar7arus 23:22, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In Fiction

[edit]

Some of the more notable ones should be included if they are iconic or led to an increase in popularity so I'm preserving this edit--Profitoftruth85 (talk) 03:36, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, blunt section blanking is rarely a good idea. Especially so when, as here, it's carelessly done and it deleted entries that were more worthy of inclusion (Once Upon a Time in the West, where dusters are an explicit plot device) than some of the film entries left behind. the image of a man holding a gun, he is wearing an Australian driza-bone which is not a duster, but a horse riding raincoat. 49.183.67.54 (talk) 22:24, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
