Rock!?

[edit]

This is definitely not a rock song. Can I get a consensus for "Pop rock" and "music hall" instead? This is a very poppy song, with a lot of music hall-style piano and melody, especially in the chorus. 86.142.177.11 (talk) 20:10, 16 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please read WP:NOR. You should be looking at published reviews, not listening and deciding yourself. Binksternet (talk) 20:15, 16 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Which is why I'm seeing if there are enough people who share my view to reach a consensus so it can be added. That's the reason I started the conversation. If I was just deciding myself, I'd have gone ahead and added the genres without discussing. 86.142.177.11 (talk) 23:12, 16 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
A shared view is a shared violation of WP:NOR. Find a WP:Reliable source if you want to have a genre listed. Binksternet (talk) 03:18, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Lesser-known songs like this are not always going to have professionally-written views regarding their genres. The whole point of the talk page is to discuss things regarding the article when subjects like this have not already been discussed by reviewers or journalists. 86.172.245.152 (talk) 13:46, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Also, you wrote on my talk page "If you continue to change genres without discussion or sources, as you did at Foreplay/Long Time, you may be blocked from editing." See that? "Without DISCUSSION or sources". Establishing a consensus supporting a genre's addition is considered just as valid by Wikipedia as finding a written source. 86.172.245.152 (talk) 13:59, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, no. If there are no sources to draw from the genre parameter stays empty. The discussion is supposed to take place here discussing sources, not discussing personal impressions. Binksternet (talk) 15:46, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
