Dobbs Ferry as an "Orthodox Jewish community"

[edit]

The Dobbs Ferry Jewish community is serviced by the Hasidic/Traditional Chabad of the Rivertowns. Although the synagogue is quite young, it has grown ten-fold. This comment posted at 03:38, December 22, 2007 by 76.172.33.89

Please see the discussion at the "Irvington, NY" page as to why "Orthodox Jewish communities" is an inappropriate category for Dobbs Ferry -- the arguments there are applicable here as well. (Basically they boil down to the category being mistitled. It seems the intent is to list places that have significant Orthodox Jewish populations or settlements, but the actual wording does not convey that.) This article needs help

[edit]

Dobbs Ferry Football, albeit a fantastic program, should be part of the overall discussion of the school district. Same goes for Destination Imagination. It gives a person trying to learn about the community only a small glimpse. Also needed is a discussion of the arts, religious and cultural institutions, and environment such as Wickers Creek, parks along the Hudson, Saw Mill River restoration work, Old Putnam Valley Line and Hudson Lines, etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.198.131.77 (talk)

Census Data

[edit]

I just added a Historical Populations box. Whew! Talk about legwork, finding all those numbers! Now, the demographics section should be rewritten for the most recent census data.Astrocog (talk) 02:12, 18 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Capt William H. Dobbs

[edit]

Some statements were inserted into the History section of this article on 1 Dec 2012 by an unidentified contributor, asserting that Dobbs Ferry was named after Captain William H. Dobbs. While the illustrious Captain was most likely related to the Dobbs who operated Dobbs Ferry, it was not his family who operated it. I also removed the statements about Capt Dobbs performing spying missions for General Washington, which, while true, were not coordinated in Dobbs Ferry and have no relationship to this article. (Detailed information with sources about Capt. Dobbs can be found at [1]). TomChatt (talk) 04:26, 21 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in Dobbs Ferry, New York

[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Dobbs Ferry, New York's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "USCensusEst2016":

  • From Manhattan: "Annual Estimates of the Resident Population: April 1, 2010 to July 1, 2016 Population Estimates - New York County, New York". United States Census Bureau. Retrieved June 11, 2017.
  • From The Bronx: "Counties Population Totals Tables: 2010-2016, Annual Estimates of the Resident Population for Counties: April 1, 2010 to July 1, 2016". Retrieved June 10, 2017.
  • From Yonkers, New York: "Population and Housing Unit Estimates". Retrieved June 9, 2017.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 11:55, 23 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
