Speculation about book 5
I am getting fed up with reverting speculation about the title and content of book 5. I have made allowance for the fact that a lot of the editors here are kids but we have been through this enough times for everybody to understand that unreferenced speculation does not belong in an encyclopaedia. I am now reverting this stuff as vandalism and repeat offenders can look forward to warning templates on their talk pages. Please just give it up! Go and write about something that really does exist and you will be very welcome to come back here in 2010 and write about book 5 once it is officially announced. --DanielRigal (talk) 20:56, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
OK, it's 2010 now, and book 5 is being released fairly soon, a matter of weeks from now. Book 5's official title is the Ugly Truth and includes no speculating as it is on the author's website. Look if you don't believe me. --CBeveridge 07:28 PM, 2 November 2010 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.81.69.189 (talk) 02:29, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
Merge of List of Diary of a Wimpy Kid books
It has been suggested that List of Diary of a Wimpy Kid books be merged here. This has been tagged for some time but there has been no discussion on it. I think this is pretty much a no-brainer. We already have the complete list of books here and separate articles about each book with detailed (probably overdetailed) plot summaries. The list article is not a list, it is an article with unreferenced plot summaries. We don't need that. I guess it could be a deletion candidate, but I want to play nice and give people a chance to merge it if they want to. Please add bulleted comments bellow here--DanielRigal (talk) 19:02, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Rename Summary of Diary of a Wimpy Kid
This is the article on the series. There are still people who think the article about all four books and whatnot are on Diary of a Wimpy Kid, it is not, that's the article of Book #1, not the entire series. Fishhead (talk) 21:01, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

handwritten vs hand written
Anyone have an old aunt (or uncle) who knows if the proper usage is "handwritten" or "hand written"? Uncle uncle uncle 05:34, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
- I'm no old aunt or uncle, but I am an English teacher, and either usage is fine. I have a preference for hyphenating if you're going to write it as two words, only because depending on the context, hand written can be slightly confusing (as in, she left hand written notes in each mailbox), but hand written, handwritten, and hand-written are all okay. Mitchell k dwyer (talk) 06:20, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply - I looked a bit and could not find what the proper usage is - if there is one. I do prefer the hyphen also. Uncle uncle uncle 18:46, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
- I'm sorry to contradict, but technically, "handwritten" ought to be a single word, as it is an acceptable portmanteau; meanwhile double-barrelled, it becomes sloppy by comparison. My english teacher taught me that many years ago, though every person's interpretation is different. --rm 'w avu 04:51, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
Color
Does the color of the books really matter? Alphius 02:58, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
- No. Including the colours is just idiotic. There is no guarantee that the colours will be the same in all reprints and in all countries. It is just one more trivial thing for us to get bogged down in and for the hoaxers to hoax us about. I can't think of any other book series article that does this. I am going to be bold and remove them all. We should have done this ages ago. --DanielRigal (talk) 11:04, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
I work in a public library, and our children's librarians report that almost every day kids coming in asking for the books by color, like "the red Diary of a Wimpy Kid" without knowing the name. I imagine lots of parents and reader have a similar issue. Mayawagon (talk) 20:23, 19 December 2018 (UTC)

Speculation about book 6
I am getting fed up with reverting speculation about the title and content of book 6. Who do you think you are, the Wimpy Kid expert? 98.219.123.213 (talk) 14:09, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
- I am just a guy who doesn't like kids putting crap they made up themselves into Wikipedia and pretending it is true. I don't pretend to know what the title of the new book will be. All I know is that nobody knows yet and anybody who pretends to know is either gullibly repeating baseless rumours (that they never bothered to check) or just deliberately vandalising Wikipedia. The hoaxing has to stop. I don't need to be an expert to insist on that. We have a verifiability policy and that is all I am insisting on.
- Plenty of other kids are able to contribute to the Wimpy Kid articles sensibly and constructively so there is no excuse for those who can't. --DanielRigal (talk) 19:16, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

New redirects
Just wondering, why have some of the articles on the individual books been made into redirects and some kept as stand-alone articles? King jakob c (talk) 02:45, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
We should do something about mentioning nonexistent sequels
I just saw that someone's added information about a supposed 8th audiobook. I looked it up, and there is some speculation on the web about an 8th book in the series. But there's no mention of it being called School Stress, as the person who made that edit seems to claim. Should something be done about that? Is there a template you can put on the top of an article to discourage writing speculations?
King jakob c (talk) 14:26, 24 November 2012 (UTC)
- see WP:CRYSTALElectroPro (talk) 21:09, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
- Exactly. I've noticed that the random speculation comes mostly from IPs. Should the page be semi-protected to stop speculation? Also, I suppose I should remove any references to Diary of a Wimpy Kid 8+? King jakob c (talk) 22:38, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
Vandalism over the series
I'm noticing that the DoaWK articles are very, very prone to people adding faux titles and whatnot. We're actually considered to be less reliable at times than the wikias for the series because we're prone to people adding various names and information. I would like to ask if there's been any verification about any of the names such as "Cold Cuts". I'm going to keep my eye on the series pages, but I thought I'd drop a note here just in case. Book 13 "The Metldown"
Even though the book has just been announced, do you think that the book should be included in this article or not? I notice some possible edit warring going on that's about this topic. INeedSupport (talk) 17:09, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
Book 14 Wrecking Ball
Nobody's working on this one. The draft was rejected as nobody worked on that one either. I know the book has not been released yet, but we need someone to work on that one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Seco86484 (talk • contribs) 00:13, 10 October 2019 (UTC)
- At first, it was made, but was later redirected to the first Diary of a Wimpy Kid article due to failing notability guidelines. Can someone help finding some secondary sources so we can restore the Wimpy Kid Wrecking Ball article? Seco86484 (talk) 23:59, 8 December 2019 (UTC)

Include Manny Heffley being used as a symbol for Black Lives Matter/Revolution?
I understand this is a pretty absurd and strange phenomenon to include, but could we include the fact that Manny Heffley has recently been frequently used as a revolutionary symbol of Black Lives Matter and him being frequently spraypainted with revolutionary quotes? I wasn't sure if this was relevant enough or if so, where it should be put in the article. Here are a few sources I found on it. [1][2] Uelly (talk) 21:25, 24 June 2020 (UTC)

It's a Journal
The beginning of the first book in the series itself states that it is actually journal and not a diary. The article states that it's a diary though, that's wrong. 223.184.77.204 (talk) 10:33, 21 July 2021 (UTC)

- Support, this seems sensible to me (especially because "book series" doesn't accurately represent that this is an article on the franchise at large). Nohomersryan (talk) 03:48, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose, as someone who would potentially search for the article under its original/current name if they weren't already an editor on Wikipedia, this move doesn't make much sense to me. Please note that replying to me about why you disagree with me does not make your point of view any more true, and isn't a good look for you either. Sean Stephens (talk) 02:14, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
