Information on marriages

[edit]

The box near the top lists marriages as follows (with a note referencing the New York Times obituary): Spouse(s) James Dickson (1955-1958) (divorced) 1 child Russell Parker (m. 1966–1970) Michael Hausman (1961-1992) (divorced) 1 child

The second marriage must have incorrect dates since it conflicts with the dates of the third marriage and since the New York Times obituary indicates Varsi was divorced twice by age 21 (approx. 1959). Also, she did not divorce her third husband, Michael Hausman. That marriage ended with her death in 1992. I don't know the details (particularly the dates) of her marriage to Russell Parker.

Someone with the information should make a correction. Nairdainreverse (talk) 03:25, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Out of curiosity I poked around, & now I'm more confused about her marital history than ever. Most of what I found wouldn't be *acceptable* WP sources.
IMDB gives marriage dates as follows....1) ???? Dutra,1953-54, annulled (which clashes with WPs assertion that her son Shawn was born in 1956, as WP does say 1st marriage was annulled before he was even born); 2) James Dickson, November 23, 1956 - August 29, 1958, divorced, 1 child (so is this guy Shawn's father? still couldn't have had marriage annulled before Shawn was born if it lasted till 1958 & the kid was born 1956; the usual requirements for a civil annulment are non-consummation, a no-go if that's his son; fraud; one/both parties were minors; one/both parties were deemed mentally incapacitated); 3) Michael Hausman, May 21, 1961 - 1965, divorced, 1 child; 4) Howard Russell Parker, 1966 - 1970 (which would mean she was married to no one at the time of her 1992 demise). IMDB also says Shawn was born 1956 & gives his last name as Hausman, from which one can assume he was legally adopted by Michael Hausman? WP does have the Dickson & Hausman dates in line with IMDBs.
IMDB elaborates: On August 29, 1958, Varsi won an uncontested divorce from her husband at the time, John (he was called James in the marriages list) Dickson, after testifying that Dickson criticized her until she had a nervous breakdown and had to be hospitalized. The following March, she boarded a plane along with their son (so is the fan site wrong, or IMDB?) for a retreat in Vermont, having announced shortly before that she was quitting films forever. In 1960, she returned to her hometown of San Mateo and remarried the following year (so correct on the Hausman marriage date?) but did not return to acting for another six years.

Fan website says she'd been married 4x, 1st husband's name & any details of he marriage deliberately undisclosed by Varsi, who refused to speak about it. Gives no marriage dates at all, but says Russell Parker was her last husband, not her 2nd as WP asserts. No DOB for son Shawn given. Site elaborates: Diane married a young boy and not long after gave birth to a son, Shawn Michael, but the marriage was annulled. In later interviews, she refused to discuss the marriage and would not mention her first husband's name. She married again. Her second husband was producer James Dickson. He became Diane's manager.....Diane married a third time. With artist Michael Hausman she had a second child, a daughter named Willo.....In 1967 she had a supporting role in a Swedish film called Roseanna. Diane's marriage to Michael Hausman ended. She then married Russell Parker. The site listed a slew of articles about her, but they're all super-old (probably deleted/archived by now, if they were ever online at all) & none of them were linked, alas.
LA Times says her 1st marriage was at age 15 (could've easily been granted a civil annulment, as even in the 50s she would've been considered a minor below the age of informed consent, ie, her parents would've had to sign off on it for it to be legal, a la Courtney Stodden's marriage to Doug Hutchison), & her 2nd marriage was at age 17 (to Dickson?). Gives no dates for any marriages. It elaborates: In 1971, she quit making what she called "cheap films of little merit" and took the role of a compassionate nurse opposite Donald Sutherland and Jason Robards Jr. in Dalton Trumbo's bitter anti-war film, "Johnny Got His Gun." It was, she said, "the kind of role I've always wanted . . . but it's been a long wait." At the time she was living in San Rafael with her two children and doing some photography and writing. Which would make the divorce date of 1970 from Russell Parker correct, then, if by 1971 she was living with her 2 children, no husband mentioned? LA Times would be the only *acceptable* WP source but unfortunately there's no dates in it.
One *famous people hookups* sort of site says: Michael Hausman and Diane Varsi were married for 3 years. They dated for 1 year after getting together in 1960 and married on 21st May 1961. 3 years later they divorced in 1965. Also says: Russell Parker was previously married to Diane Varsi (1966 - 1970) & James Dickson was previously married to Diane Varsi (1956 - 1958). Most other sites that give it a mention seem to have copied & pasted directly from WP, so no help there. Some don't even mention the Parker marriage.
I think the IMDB dates are probably correct, but because it's a user-input site with no citations required, it's not *acceptable* to WP as a reference. If I changed the infobox to reflect those dates, someone would spank me for it. Don't know what to tell ya. ScarletRibbons (talk) 07:13, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
