Text and/or other creative content from this version of Debbie Rodella was copied or moved into Thomas Rodella with this edit on 14:47, 20 November 2014. The former page's history now serves to provide attribution for that content in the latter page, and it must not be deleted as long as the latter page exists.
I've placed a coat rack template on this page, as it talks primarily about the subject's husband. Based on the information currently on this page, the incident has little do with the subject's political career, which is her reason for notability. As it stands, this article is essentially a trojan horse to talk about Rodella's husband's arrest, and borders on an attack page. Orser67 (talk) 04:39, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
On the contrary, the political careers or Rep. Rodella and her husband have long been inextricably intertwined as arguably the most politically powerful couple, both individually and jointly, in the portion of New Mexico in which they live which is clearly laid out in the sources cited. Mr. Rodella's conviction on Federal criminal civil rights charges while the sitting county sheriff subjecting him to a possible sentence of 17 years in a Federal penitentiary is a very significant event in Rep. Rodella's political career. It has garnered extensive media coverage in all the major New Mexico broadcast and print media and the section on her husband's arrest and conviction is very well sourced therefrom. This is neither "coat racking" nor is it an "attack page", but simply the inclusion of highly relevant, well sourced, and objectively stated accurate information that relates to Rep. Rodella. Leaving out information as significant as this to her personally as well as her political career would not only be inappropriate, but encycolpedicly irresponsible. The information is somewhat relevant, which is why I left in that he was arrested. But even if their careers are intexricably connected, she's a lawmaker who has served for 20 years, not a person notable for one event, and her page shouldn't be primarily about her husband's arrest (as it stands, the marriage section is larger than the rest of the page combined). Perhaps you should change the article's name to "Tommy and Debbie Rodella," or create an article for Tommy Rodella. As it stands, a blow-by-blow account of the arrest is not warranted when there's no evidence that the subject herself was involved, either in the action itself or any subsequent action (e.g. an attempt to get the charges dismissed). The page currently contains considerably more information about her personal life and political career than when you created it with exactly 29 words in two sentences in November, 2013. If you felt that it was important to include more information on her two-decade political career and personal life, you certainly had ample opportunity to have done so either then or later but chose not to. The significant information about the multiple Federal felony convictions of her husband—which based on the amount and content of media coverage appear to be by far the most significant event in both her political career and personal life—was added when that occurred in late September, 2014. Since then considerably more information about her legislative career and personal life has also added to which you are, of course, free to expand upon. If you chose not to, however, that is not a valid reason to remove highly relevant, well sourced, and reliable information about an event that is so very significant to Rep. Rodella, her political career, and personal life on the specious grounds of "coatracking" or, for that matter, any other reason. Centpacrr (talk) 06:44, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm glad that information about her career has been added to the page; that's why I created it, so that hopefully people would contribute to it. But you've failed to show how the arrest is relevant to her career, or at least relevant enough to merit more than a brief mention. All of the sources about the arrest barely mention her, or how the arrest affects her political career. Maybe the arrest is extremely important to her career, but you haven't shown it. And "coatracking" is a recognized problem in Wikipedia. If you look at other biographies, you don't find that half of the content of the page is about one incident involving the spouse of the article subject. And even if Rodella was involved in the accident itself, I would still think that account of the incident is unnecessarily long and detailed. Orser67 (talk) 09:54, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi-I helped expand this article to include information about Debbie Rodella's education and career outside of politics and that she was re-elected to office. I agree with Yoninah that there should be an article about her husband or about the court case involving Tommy Rodella. I am not sure how the news media covered this outside of New Mexico. This should be look into. I disagree with Orser67 about expanding the article to include her husband. Debbie Rodella is notable in her own right being a member of the New Mexico Legislature and therefore deserves her own article. Thank you-RFD (talk) 11:58, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If someone wants to make a separate article about Mr. Rodella that's fine. But in the interim the material should be left "live" here as opposed to being simply deleted and constructively lost forever as this is a very significant Federal felony conviction of a sworn officer, especially in the light of the nationwide issue of police civil rights violations, routine use of excessive force, and the Ferguson, MO, case. Thank, you @Orser67:. For copyright purposes, it's important to place a merge tag on the talk page of the new article when you move material from a different article. If you're not familiar with that action, I could do it later. Yoninah (talk) 15:32, 20 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
