Spanish translation
[edit]I've seen that English speaking journalists have randomly translated "De Una Vez" to "At Once"(https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/selena-gomez-de-una-vez-song-video-1114967/ & https://www.vogue.com/article/de-una-vez-selena-gomez-los-perez-interview). As a Spanish speaker, being Spanish my mother language, I find this quite inaccurate. "At Once" is a rough translation that makes no sense in the concept of the song. Not to mention the journalists who "translated" the words seems to not understand the language and their result could be a trivial Google Translator result. The lyrics in Spanish say "De una vez por todas [...] soy más fuerte sola" which could be translated to "Finally/After all/Once and for all I'm better on my own". According to the reliable online bilingual concordance page Linguee,(https://www.linguee.es/search?query=at%20once) "At Once" has other meanings as:
- Doing two or more things at the same time.
- Inmediatly, right now.
The problem in my opinion is that the title wrongly cuts the original expression which is "de una vez por todas" to "de una vez", turning into a different meaning to the one on the song. In fact, according to the previously mentioned page Linguee, "de una vez por todas" could be translated to "once and for all".(https://www.linguee.es/espanol-ingles/search?source=espanol&query=de+una+vez+por+todas) It has nothing to do with the meaning of "at once".
In my opinion, the best translation for the song could be "Finally" or "Once and for All". I would like to know your opinions and if other fellow Spanish speakers agree with me or have other point of view. Anonpediann (talk) 11:28, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
- When she sings "De una vez por todas", the captions on the official YouTube video [1] say "Once and for all". It's the same the second time she sings it. "De una vez" doesn't occur alone. I don't speak Spanish but we would need an official translation or reliable sources to claim an English title with parts which aren't in the Spanish title. We could mention that the song title occurs in "De una vez por todas" which means "Once and for all". PrimeHunter (talk) 15:41, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
- According to Google translate, "por todas" means "for all", leaving "de una vez" to mean "Once and", so the translation of "De Una Vez" → "At Once" makes the most sense. As well, Google translate also says "De Una Vez" means "At Once". I think Billboard and RS just checked Google translate before writing their articles, but they are the most reliable sources we have so far. - "At Once" makes no sense in the concept of the song and we shouldn't rely on sources who doesn't understand the meaning they are giving to the title. The Billboard source even says it's a "rough" translation. I would rather use "Finally". In Spanish, we also say de una vez when we have finally archived something, for example: "He acabado mis deberes de una vez" translates to"I finally finished my homework". In the concept of the song: "De una vez por todas [...] soy más fuerte ahora" could also be translated to "Finally I'm stronger on my own", which makes more sense. I highly recommend using this translation. Let me know what you think and if you know any other Spanish speaking wikipedian who could also help settling down this issue. It would be appreciated. - Well, I also found some sources that correctly translates the title https://people.com/music/selena-gomez-releases-spanish-single-de-una-vez/, https://www.popbuzz.com/music/artists/selena-gomez/news/de-una-vez-lyrics-english-translation-meaning/, https://www.thelist.com/313379/what-de-una-vezs-lyrics-from-selena-gomez-really-mean/ and http://abcnewsradioonline.com/music-news/2021/1/15/selena-gomez-honors-her-heritage-with-release-of-spanish-lan.html. Also this one could be helpful as the translation is given on the title https://www.vulture.com/2021/01/selena-gomez-releases-new-single-de-una-vez-music-video.html. Let me know your thoughts. - Only one of those sources indicate the title is "Once and for all": https://www.thelist.com/313379/what-de-una-vezs-lyrics-from-selena-gomez-really-mean/. The rest are translating the lyrics. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:37, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah but the translated lyrics show the part where the title comes from, also invalidating the "at once" translation. Anonpediann (talk) 23:28, 17 January 2021 (UTC)

Genre
[edit]The song is clearly latin, not just pop. Just because it is not sourced does not mean it is pop. Just listen to it, it checks every box. Also, the album will be entirely in Spanish, as she has said. Acr9709 (talk) 19:33, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
- Then go and find a source who calls it Latin pop. Plus a pop song being on Spanish doesn't mean it's Latin pop. Anonpediann (talk) 23:32, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Acr9709: per Template:Infobox song#genre, all genres must be reliably sourced. As well, inserting original research into articles is frowned upon and will get reverted quickly. Please find reliable sources saying the song is "Latin pop" and then we will include it. D🐶ggy54321 (let's chat!) 04:22, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
