[edit]Whoever wrote this is an idiot. He is standing next to me and we are laughing about it....the gates of St Peter are shining brightly unfortunately are firmly closed however — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7F:A069:5100:4880:67D0:7B57:2B5C (talk) 18:00, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
OBE and CBE
[edit]It says he has a CBE but in the article says he was awarded an OBE...
- This says he got the CBE in 2000. It's fairly common to get one award and then get a higher one a few years later (the order goes MBE, OBE, CBE, KBE/DBE, GBE). — sjorford (talk) 12:07, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
Obscenity sentence
[edit]"He won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award the same year, but it was marred by Thompson uttering an obscenity in his acceptance speech during the live broadcast of the programme." This is journalistic, not encyclopaedic. I have therefore rephrased it to be NPOV, but a transcipt would be amusing and add value to the article Fiddle Faddle 16:13, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
Neutral point of view
[edit]There is a lot of praise being thrown onto DT in this article. Im not saying he doesn't deserve it but without references and citations it reads like a fans tribute. Tremello22 15:00, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Inaccuracy
[edit]The article says, "Then when the new scoring tables were introduced, Thompson became the sole record holder once more with a recalculated score of 8,847 points..." This is not correct. The IAAF ruled that Thompson could not become the record holder simply by a change of tables. They kept Hingsen as the record holder, but to establish a new record you would have to exceed "...the best performance to date evaluated on the new tables." Thompson's performance was that target. For reference, see 1985 IAAF Scoring Tables For Multi-Events, page 106, note 1). Cottonshirt (talk) 08:29, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
These two websites both contain large blocks of identical text. I'm assuming this is backwards copyvio - can anyone confirm?

Anti-Irish sentiment??
[edit]Daley is of the generation that heard 'Irish jokes' all the time on television- is what he said really relevant to an encyclpaedic article about him? Seriously. 70.238.220.101 (talk) 19:40, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
'Black English sportspeople' category
[edit]Daley is half white, so why is he categorised as being 'black'? Does Daley identify with being 'black' only, I very much doubt it.
Thanks! 70.238.220.101 (talk) 20:20, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
- Wikipedia categories are not exclusive: he's in the 'black English people' and 'English people of Nigerian descent' categories for his Nigerian father, and the 'English people of Scottish descent' category for his Scottish mother. They don't mean he identifies as 'black only'. He is described as 'black' by reliable sources (e.g. from the first reference, 100greatblackbritons.com [1]) so the category is appropriate. Bruce Jenner / Caitlyn Jenner
[edit]We should discuss here what name to include for Jenner in the succession box. I note that none of the templates have changed the name. There is, however, an ongoing discussion at Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)/Archive 121#MOS:IDENTITY clarification. StAnselm (talk) 23:41, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

Daley Thompson
[edit]Also has a half brother Tony Mackenzie from his mother. 206.248.39.99 (talk) 03:07, 26 November 2021 (UTC)
Opening para
[edit]It says:
Thompson is considered by many to be one of the greatest decathletes of all time.
Is there any evidence of a single person in the world awho doesn't consider him one of the greatest decathletes of all time? This statement is so obvious, it should be removed. 2A02:C7E:3AC4:E700:814:7426:598D:E167 (talk) 22:19, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
