You are what you eat

[edit]

This article presents the phrase "you are what you eat" coming from a different source than what Wiktionary says. Possible problem.

Culinary arts

[edit]

This page gives little to no thought into culinary art itself; the whole page is basically devoted to culinary art schools. I was hoping to see information about culinary art information on the page... Fishgibblets (talk) 08:24, 29 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Canadian culinary school

[edit]

We would like to add our culinary school to the Canadian list. http://www.nait.ca/program_home_11824.htm The school has also been recognized on an international scale for its excellence. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81U9sM-p_sA&feature=channel_page dibegin (talk) 16 June 2009 (MST)

culinariao

[edit]

Are you sure such a word even exists? Culinariao? Any reference to a reputable dictionary perhaps? Could it be culinario (an Spanish and Italian adjectives, meaning "culinary") Could it perhaps be French adjective culinaire. Is it a proper word or is it yet another Wikipedia neologism? Roobit (talk) 22:09, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fastest Growing?

[edit]

That needs a source. Cooks and chefs have been around literally, since the beginning of time. Perhaps more people are getting a formal training than ever, but that should be documented and cited.--129.170.93.213 06:54, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal

[edit]

Although Culinary Art is a dismal article, Culinary Professional is further along, and they are both in essence the same article. I would like to expand upon the topic, but want to combine them into one article first which I will do unless there is any major argument after the suggested five days.--Christopher Tanner, CCC 03:27, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Citation

[edit]

Because in 14:41, 17 February 2007, I'v ad a paragraph describing culinary art, describing some work places of culinary artists, and the link refering that information, I think that the link as a reference must be in the page, because the information is there, in form of citation.Search4.0 17:59, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That was a mistake made by me probably when I made the merge, my apologies.--Christopher Tanner, CCC 18:04, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"That was a mistake made by me" Same mistake?--Search4.0 16:56, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, this was not a mistake, that is why I removed not only the link and the citation. Citing a website that has been written by seemingly yourself is not a valid citation. You can write the "fact", but the citation is not academically valid.--Christopher Tanner, CCC 17:04, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The culinary arts in home life

[edit]

Why no mention of the culinary arts in home life? Now that more than 30% of Americans are overweight and suffering from the diseases associated with metabolic syndrome and high blood pressure, perhaps it is time we paid more attention to cultivating personal culinary expertise.

Seems to me this article focuses exclusively on PROFESSIONAL application of such expertise. Perhaps, like the French and the Italians, we might more easily enjoy sitting down to five-course meals with those we love if restaurant gorging (and high prices) were not involved.Apostle12 (talk) 00:19, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Culinary or culenary?

[edit]

Although the title is "culinary art", the rest of the page uses the spelling "culenary". Is culenary an alternative spelling (e.g. artefact vs artifact) or is it simply incorrect? If it is an alternative spelling one should be chosen and used consistently. Duxenaz (talk) 04:23, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Data issue

[edit]

If 54% of culinary professionals are female then the other half are inherently male. This figure is not relevant to the article.

Agreed, but the fact that its roughly a 50/50 ratio of male to female is relevant. --Scalhotrod - Just your average banjo playing, drag racing, cowboy... (talk) 20:19, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notable culinary colleges around the world

[edit]

The list of "Notable culinary colleges around the world" is getting excessively long. A lot of the given links are not blue links and the notability of many institutions is doubtful. I suggest a major clean up along the following lines:

  • Only catering colleges with an article are allowed in the list.
  • Every country can add one catering college that does not have its own article but with more colleges in the list they all need to have their own article. (Bit bit like the Olympic Rule: every country can send one unqualified participant for a certain event, but when it sends more then one participant they all have to be qualified)

At the moment the list is prone to (link)spam and cutting the list along these lines will greatly reduce this. The Banner talk 10:55, 13 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have almost no culinary knowledge, however the article gives way too much attention to a list of colleges, and the list is set up in a way in which notable is not really defined. Hopefully an expert can help with this. 71.185.33.234 (talk) 05:07, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Occupational outlook

[edit]

Is this section worthwhile or is it so limited in its present scope that it better could be removed? The Banner talk 23:26, 17 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Gotta begin somewhere...

[edit]

So it seems like this page has been waiting for someone to take the reins for a long time.

I am making edits to organize the entry in a more useful way.

There are likely to be factual inaccuracies and I beg you to please fix them and cite them properly.

However, I am a life-long foodservice professional, and I have also created several Wikipedia entries over the years which still exist. I believe everything in my edit to be factually correct, and am not making up information. I am simply trying to organize the entry and make it more useful to people in general, which it obviously has been asked for repeatedly.

I expect a great deal of what I am writing will be revised. But someone has to step up and get this thing started. Please allow me.

Tools and Techniques

[edit]

Hello everyone! I am doing some work on this Wiki article for a school assignment. Over the past several weeks I have been doing some research into the culinary arts with resources that I have access to through my school. I would like to add a section to this article that goes into the tools and techniques that are used in the culinary arts. I saw in the above comments that someone wished that this article focused a little more on the culinary arts itself and less on culinary art schools. I think that a section based on tools, techniques, practices, etc. would be a good step in the direction of diversifying the content of this article a bit. Thanks! Hi, I added information about a chefs experience and how they have passion for their job. MaiyaMaiyabarker (talk) 23:41, 18 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There are more people dedicated to their job. Can you explain why this is relevant to this article? To my opinion it is not relevant at all. And certainly not suitable for the lead. The Banner talk 11:28, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
