Doubts about name etymology
[edit]The article currently claims the name etymology is from the eastern Ojibwe Missinnihe which they claim means "trusting river". Another version seems to be Mazina'iga which when looked up in an Ojibwe dictionary simply means credit (https://ojibwe.lib.umn.edu/main-entry/mazina-amaw-vta). Could it be that "trusting" is simply a different interpretation of the word credit (i.e. trusting that you'll pay back)? The book linked for the source of the trusting river interpretation ultimately traces back to Augustus Jones "names of the rivers and creeks as they are called by the mississaugas...," 1796 surveyor's letters. However, I can't find this text to verify if it does give this etymology. Waxwing96 (talk) 15:23, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
