[edit]Cornelia Funke's daughter Anna is, according to a article in the "Süddeutsche Zeitung", 16, not 14. I changed this.

"The Thief Lord has already been released in German, and is expected to be released in English sometime in 2006." and "The Thief Lord (2002)" on the list of Books in English. These statements seem contradictory. Does the first refer to a theatrical or television release, as the following sentences do? The transition is awkward.
I thought it odd that most of the dates listed in the Biography section differ from the Novels section —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.51.124.107 (talk) 02:04, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Foon-ka
[edit]I am sorry, but Funke's name is NOT pronounced Foon-ka. Even "reliable sources" can be WRONG. --24.85.68.231 (talk) 04:15, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
- Because you say so? Sorry, I will go with the source (Washington Post) that interviewed, and directly quoted, her instead. The phonetic spelling, if you read the source, was quoted directly from Ms. Funke ("My name is pronounced FOON-ka, but I don't mind when people call me funky"). By the way, it's not an alternative pronunciation; the IPA pronunciation (fʊŋkə) is roughly the same, Foon-ka. f = fuss, ʊ = took, ŋ = long, k = kick, ə = comma. The phonetic spelling simply makes it quicker for those not trained in IPA, or not wanting to compare it to the chart. The name's pronunciation is likely not how most English speaking readers would pronounce it (as Cornelia points out herself), so the phonetic spelling is helpful. I'm not sure how you are wanting to pronounce it. It's not "funk" or "funky." --Cdman882 (talk) 18:36, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
- The problem is that the German "-ke" syllable its not pronounce as "key", obviously, but "kah" is also wrong. It's more like "keh" if that makes sense for you. Your IPA reading was almost right, except for the last letter, which I'd more closely describe as the last syllable of better. Please also do note the stress sign before the first syllable – the "ke" is almost swallowed in German. This is hard to describe and probably the reason why Cornelia simplified things in the interview – probably she thought, "better almost right this way than completely wrong the other way". The IPA noted in the article is the right choice I'd say as a German native speaker. --DerPaul (talk) 01:03, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

Traveling Across the Pond
[edit]Even though Cornelia Funke is considered the J.K. Rowling of Germany (the first four publishers she submitted to accepted Dragon Rider), it has taken a bit more time for her work to travel to other countries and across the pond. However, the magic and fantasy in her books appealed to many readers. Clara, an 11-year-old English girl who spoke both English and German, told J.K. Rowling's publisher that she wanted to be able to read Funke in English. At that point, he actually sought Funke out. Now, Funke has won awards in multiple countries and her influence has spread, especially with Inkheart. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.219.218.37 (talk) 05:44, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
