The result of the move request was: moved to Combat of Rosslau. (closed by non-admin page mover) Extraordinary Writ (talk) 17:46, 6 January 2022 (UTC)
Combat of Roßlau → Affair at Rosslau – It wasn't really a battle, so "affair" may be a better word that has actually been used in relation to this encounter.[1] In this case there is no reason not to use the spelling of the day, which was, when latin letters were used, Rosslau.[2] Until the early 20th century the "ß" generally belonged to the gothic script. - Support. Letters that are non-standard in the English alphabet should generally not be used in titles if there is an alternative. I am Neutral on "combat" vs "affair". Rreagan007 (talk) 16:01, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose. Being the creator of this article, I feel inclined to give my opinion about this matter. Since you want to change both the word "Combat > Affair" and the name variant "Roßlau > Rosslau", I have chosen to oppose this request (as for now); the reason is, when looking around the battle-articles for the Napoleonic Wars on Wikipedia, I see more consistency with the word "Combat" (for an engagement that is not quite a battle): Combat of Padrões de Teixeira; Combat of El Bruch; Combat of Barquilla (1810); Combat of Korneuburg; Combat of Stockerau; Combat of Schöngrabern. As opposed to "Affair", which was not used by one single battle-article in the Napoleonic Wars, as far as I could tell—I skimmed through the Peninsular War and the Third, Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Coalition campaignboxes. Besides, without context, an "affair" can be misinterpreted as something completely different, e.g., the love "affair of Rosslau". With that said, I do not mind "Rosslau" as opposed to "Roßlau"; but I will not support a move until the intention is merely to change the name-variant (and not the word "combat"). - Comment: "Combat of Rosslau" is OK. Edaen (talk) 23:45, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
- Support alternative Combat of Rosslau. Ticks all the boxes. Andrewa (talk) 15:32, 6 January 2022 (UTC)
