Not sure if the additional information about how people can participate in the Music Marathon event is helpful or against the rules. It's a little harder to reference for articles that don't necessarily have scholarly research performed on them, but I wanted to give as much info as possible for those reading and curious. Please delete if it is not allowed, or edit as necessary. Any questions, please reach me at info@sonicbids.com, Thanks! --AprilAtSonicbids (talk) 22:57, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't want to add something without references, but someone needs to add some sort of comment pointing out that CMJ NMM is kind of dead, or at least has been dead. In the last couple years they've managed a couple of issues which is pretty terrible for a monthly magazine. 173.79.164.219 (talk) 21:13, 26 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Merge discussion

[edit]

All of these articles are relatively brief and there are already sections dedicated to each subject in the main article, which is also brief. This looks like a good candidate for a merge which could be easily done. Piriczki (talk) 13:57, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Correct title of magazine

[edit]

A recent edit to the article states that College Media Journal "was renamed to College Music Journal in the early 1980s" with a supposed "reference showing the name change before 1984." The reference in question (Freeman, Kim. "CMI Meet: Gathering Big Lift to College Radio" Billboard November 24, 1984: 1) says absolutely nothing about the publication changing its name, it simply incorrectly refers to the title as College Music Journal, a common misconception that sometimes appears in media sources. The claim that the Billboard article represents a name change is contradicted by numerous other articles in the same magazine throughout the 1980s, including some by the same author, that use the correct title College Media Journal (see [1]). The January 5, 2004 issue of CMJ New Music Report has a comprehensive history of CMJ detailing its beginning as College Media Journal and its change to CMJ New Music Report in 1982. The misconception about the title was addressed by the editor of CMJ in the November 1995 issue stating "we are often misidentified as College Music Journal, which is 100% wrong." The question "what does CMJ stand for?" was addressed again in the March 1998 issue. This publication was never, at any time in its history, known as College Music Journal. What the hell does CMJ stand for?

[edit]

The article doesn't say, and neither does the disambiguation page. Seems like an obvious thing to include. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kchwe (talkcontribs) 00:20, 28 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The company was started by Robert Haber in 1978 as the College Media Journal, a bi-weekly trade magazine aimed at college radio programmers. Piriczki (talk) 01:50, 28 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
