Anglo-Norman
[edit]Houston is an Anglo-Norman Lowlands name. It is therefore, by definition, not a Scottish clan. Cripipper (talk) 17:56, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
My understanding is that Houston is a sept of Clan MacDonald of Sleat. Synaptic-axon (talk) 16:57, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
- In some cases the surname Houston is regarded as an Anglicised form of MacUisdein, a Gaelic surname that has been associated with the MacDonalds of Sleat. This MacDonald family are sometimes known in Gaelic as Clann Uisdein after a fifteenth-century chief named Uisdean (aka Hugh of Sleat).--Brianann MacAmhlaidh (talk) 22:06, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
